Happy Friday & welcome to the First Line Friday link-up! Without further ado… it’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. Today, I’m featuring the first line of Behind Love’s Wall by Carrie Fancett Pagels, currently on tour with JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC (the company I own with my book sisters).
and the first line is…
A hatchet, a Bible, and a revolver were Lily’s best friends – and Cousin Clem next door with his shotgun.
The Grand Hotel Slowly Reveals Her Secrets
Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.
Two successful women, a hundred-and-twenty-years apart, build walls to protect their hearts. Modern-day Willa, a successful interior decorator, is chosen to go to Mackinac Island and consult for the Grand Hotel’s possible redesign. During work on a room, she discovers a journal detailing the struggles of a young woman, Lily—which reveals dark secrets. The renowned singer wasn’t who she pretended to be.
As Willa reaches out to Lily’s descendant, a charismatic and prominent landscape artist, she lets down her guard. Should she share the journal with him—revealing hidden history—or once again erect a wall as she struggles to redesign both the Grand and her life?

THE AMISH CHRISTMAS SECRET by Vannetta Chapman
My husband and I will be going to see The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island this coming summer, so I will be most interested in reading Carrie Pagels’ new book.

I’m looking forward to reading this one. I’m currently reading The Debutante’s Cody by Erica Vetsch: “If you lean out any farther, you’ll wind up in the drink.” But my FLF post is from Lights Out by Natalie Walters: https://daniellegrandinetti.com/2021/11/05/first-line-friday-lights-out/
I also just finished Lights Out by Natalie Walters so I will give the next line after Paula’s.
The international school had just let out for the afternoon, and the sound of privileged children laughing about their day mingled with the horns of waiting drivers and taxis trying to navigate the afternoon congestion.
I’m reading Behind Love’s Wall also.
That’s quite the first line!
You definitely want to read on after a zesty first line like that!
Present Danger-Elizabeth Goddard. Chance Carter should have known the last delivery wouldn’t go down without a hitch.
I’m reading Autumn Skies by Denise Hunter
This book sounds captivating from the description and I am adding it to my list of stories to read next.
I really enjoyed Behind Love’s Wall. It really showcases her love for the island.
I enjoy Carrie Fancett Pagels’s novels!
I am so looking forward to reading BEHIND LOVE’S WALL! I love reading split timeline stories, and it’s setting is on Mackinac Island!! I live in Michigan and my grand father helped build the addition on the Grand Hotel back in the day, so Carrie Pagels books in this setting are extra intriguing to me. I can’t wait to read this book!!!
I’m reading a non-fiction book, Dear Hartley. First line:
The sun is setting over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and our house is quiet for the first time since I woke up fourteen hours ago.
