Detective Rembrandt Stone doesn’t recognize himself in the mirror. Doesn’t recognize the world he’s returned to. Doesn’t even know his own name. But he knows one thing…living in this world is impossible.
Good thing he has an ally—an unexpected friend from the past. And together, they just might be able to unravel the entire mess. But first…Rembrandt will have to return to the past one final time and intercept himself before he makes a lethal mistake.
Time has outwitted him. It’s time for him to outwit time. Can he reconstruct a past he just destroyed or is there nothing left of his world to save?
The explosive ending to the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone!

So, you know that moment when you tell someone a joke…and everyone gets it? And laughs with you? And then builds on it?
This is what it feels like to brainstorm with your closest, brilliant friends, and for me, the highlight of writing the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone. My son, David, and I trekked out to the backwoods of Washington State to spend a week with the amazing Jim Rubart and brainstorm a speck of an idea about a former detective who gets another chance to fix his mistakes. With Darcy, his amazing wife feeding us, we filled up his basement walls with sheet after sheet of ideas, starting first with the overall story series structure, then the individual stories and then the time travel changes for each story, before and after…It was a tangled mess that blew up my mind. It was in that moment that I knew the power of many minds on a problem. And it only got better as we dived into the series. I’d call Jim and we’d untangle a plot point, or wander into David’s office (he lived with me at the time) and ask him for an idea. My favorite moment came when, during the writing of book 5, I wrote us into a corner…and then walked out to my porch, sat down and said, “David, we have a problem.” We sat on that problem for about twenty minutes, thinking…and then came up with the same solution at the same time!
Hearing Jim bring Rembrandt alive in the audio was also a highlight for me. I wrote Rem with Jim in mind, and he nailed the audio. Rembrandt, in that moment, got up and walked off the page and into my heart.
And finally, I loved what David did with the layout of the books, adding the watch hand (if you have the print copies, pay particular attention to the watch hand at the top of each chapter). Brilliant, and it added that extra sparkle to the story.
Working in a group can be a challenge…but for us, working collectively as David James Warren taught me that we are best when we depend on each other. Rem would not be here without us all at the helm, and it’s been an amazing experience.
