Hello, friends! I am so happy to be participating in the It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas Reads series with Reading Is My SuperPower
I love this time of year. I love the decorations. I love the music and preparing for celebrating Christ’s birth. I enjoy visiting family and eating my mom’s famous peanut butter fudge and Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies. My kids are older now, so I’m excited about having them all in the same place at the same time.
I even love the snow. (I’ll rethink this opinion in February, trust me.) Here in Pennsylvania, we get our share.
As I was considering this post, one special Christmas tradition came to mind. Every year, on Christmas Eve, my dad’s family would gather at my grandparent’s house. My dad had four brothers and three sisters, so it was a large crowd. We’d all go down into the basement to eat a potluck dinner. l sat at a table with two of my closest cousins. We were all brimming with excitement because we knew what was coming.
At some point, a bell would ring, and Santa would arrive in our midst. He’d sit in a chair at the front of the room and call out the children’s names one by one, and we’d all go up and get a small gift. No two gifts were the same, which amazed us children. When I was older and knew that Santa wasn’t real, I learned that one of the uncles or older male cousins played Santa and the gifts were brought by our parents.
Even then, the magic of this special time didn’t fade. It was the one time of year I got to see my dad’s side of the family. This yearly also showed me that traditions are important and convinced me to start some of my own when I started my family.
I’d love to hear about some of your traditions for celebrating Christmas.
Dana R. Lynn is offering a print copy (or ebook if international) of Amish Christmas Escape to one of my readers! (US only for print. Void where prohibited by law or logistics.) What about you? What makes you want to read Amish Christmas Escape by Dana R. Lynn? What are some of your Christmas traditions?
Love amish themed books.
My fun of Christmas is giving. I never got much as a child because we were poor. But enjoyed decorating. This year I didn’t because of health but enjoyed giving.
My mother would make German Pfefferneuse cookies the day after Thanksgiving & hide them until Christmas! She would leave a “decoy” container for my dad to find before Christmas! 🙂
Love reading about the Amish. I use to live near Napanee, Indiana which is a big Amish community. Thanks for your great generosity.
I love reading Amish themed books! I like learning more about their beliefs and life style.
I love Amish stories. Thank you
I love suspense and the Amish books. The blurb sounds good. Thanks for the chance.
I enjoy Amish suspense.
I want to read this because it looks intriguing and my name is Christy too. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you. Happy New Year.
It sounds like a really interesting book. Thank you for sharing.
This book has two genres I enjoy reading – Amish and suspense. Our Christmas tradition is to go to the Christmas Eve candlelight service and then drive to look at lights.
i love to read amish books i am love to read books
looks intriguing
I enjoyed hearing about your fun Santa tradition. We enjoy looking at Christmas lights as a family.
Like the cover showing the Amish woman looking for a place to hide (escaping). Enjoy stories involving the Amish – especially suspense ones.
I love suspense!
This looks like a read with some depth. I’m not sure about hiding out at Christmas in Amish territory, because they celebrate the holidays differently. Holding back on having a child is some mystery.
I love a good romantic suspense story and this one sounds excellent. Thank you for posting about this book
