“If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest.”–Corrie ten Boom

Dutch watchmaker Corrie ten Boom, with her courageous, God-fearing family, sheltered Jews from the Nazis during World War II. This led to her arrest and suffering in prison and concentration camps–as told in her bestselling book The Hiding Place. Her dramatic life story and her more than 40 other books have prepared millions to face their own future with courage–relying on God’s love to forgive, overcome, heal and restore.

Through this 40-day devotional based on Corrie’s writings, you will find inspiration to strengthen your faith, re-root your soul in Christ and increase your experience of God’s peace.

Receive the courage and comfort of the Holy Spirit, and remind yourself of what Corrie ten Boom knew and lived: God is your hiding place.

When the worst happens in the life of a child of God, the best remains and the very best is yet to be.

I have seen many people behind closed doors in more than sixty countries. Some were behind the solid rock of hatred. But as they embraced forgiveness for themselves and chose to forgive their enemies, they were set free.

I have learned that forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness. I saw this key unlock many bondages, including drugs and alcohol.

Self is a tight lock. I saw many who were in a type of spiritual prison because self was on the throne of their hearts. But liberation came when they invited Jesus to sit on the throne of their hearts and placed selfishness on the cross!

When we become imprisoned within ourselves, Jesus holds the answer. When we get ourself off our minds and turn our hearts to Jesus, He gives us the precise key we need to open our locked souls and set us free.

  1. I’ve been blessed to visit Haarlem, Holland and stand in the Hiding Place in the former ten Boom watch shop twice. I’m not typically a crier, but I can’t be there/do that without tears. There is still such a presence there. If any of you ever get the chance to go, grab it. We’ve managed while flying to Israel but having stops long enough between flights to catch fast trains to Haarlem from Amsterdam and fit in the experience. Absolutely SO WORTH it!

  2. I just ordered The Hiding Place. I can’t believe I’ve never read it. My mom used to reference often when I was a kid, so I’ve heard many of Corrie’s experiences, but I can’t wait to read them for myself. Better late than never!

  3. Nadine

I read this years and years ago as a teen and need to reread it. My local library system no longer has it so once read it will get donated.

  4. Debra J Pruss

I read The Hiding Place when I was in junior high. The story has stuck with me my entire life. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
