A BOOK CALLED YOU by Matthew Stephen Brown
GENRE: Christian Growth / Enneagram
PUBLISHER: W Publishing / Thomas Nelson
RELEASE DATE: October 5, 2021
PAGES: 240
A biblically grounded Enneagram book that looks at the Enneagram numbers of people in the Bible so readers can discover more about themselves and gain specific wisdom about how and why they are uniquely made.
Who am I? Everyone asks that question, no matter their age or status in life. If we truly are supposed to be real with others, shouldn’t that start with learning how to be real with ourselves? We think so. But we have to be willing to look inside and ask, “Okay, God, who am I? What is it that I don’t see about myself that you see?” A Book Called YOU will help us learn about who we are as individuals and how a biblical view of self-discovery can improve every part of our lives.
Based on his widely successful teaching series “A Series Called You” and his personal experience using the Enneagram personality assessment tool in his marriage and other personal relationships, pastor Matt Brown offers a groundbreaking, entertaining, and heartfelt guide that highlights biblical truths alongside the Enneagram to help us better understand ourselves and how we relate to the people around us.
Hi Matthew! Welcome to the blog!
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Matthew: I would go back in time- to change things and make them better for me and everyone I could!
Carrie: that would be a great superpower to have!
Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?
Matthew: Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit
Carrie: one of THE best characters ever written!
Q:If you knew you were only going to be allowed FIVE books for the rest of your life, besides the Bible, which five would make the cut?
Matthew:
- Anything by M. Scott Peck
- Where the Red Fern Grows
- Happiness is a Serious Problem Dennis Prager
- Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster
- The Great Divorce by C. S Lewis
Carrie: oh man, I was traumatized as a child by Where the Red Fern Grows lol
Q: Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?
Matthew: I like to write at the beach after a great surf!!! I feel relaxed, and tired enough to so that my mind does not have to battle my body!!!
Carrie: Plus you can’t beat the view of the ocean or its soundtrack 🙂
Q: Why do you think the Enneagram is so popular, including among Christians?
Matthew: I think it is the best tool to help you identify the sin that’s holding you back
Carrie: hmm… I hadn’t thought of that – i’m intrigued!
Q: Along those lines then, how can understanding the Enneagram help us grow in our relationship with God and with others?
Matthew: It helps us to see our part. Our Part is the hardest to see, and often it [is] the part that we project onto God and others. When we can accurately see ourselves we create space to see others and God.
Carrie: that’s so important!
Q: What is something God taught you while you wrote A Book Called YOU?
Matthew: That [it] can be done. I have always been so intimidated to write. God taught me how to work through fear and trust others who had written before.
Carrie: i love that – He is so faithful, isn’t He?
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Matthew: I am currently working a project to help Christians navigate these crazy political times, helping them to see how God always is at work in the midst of chaos!
