A Path to Forgiveness

A PATH TO FORGIVENESS by Lisa M. James
SERIES: The Prodigal Woman #1
GENRE: Christian Fantasy
RELEASE DATE: January 21, 2022
PAGES: 272

Reckless. Extravagant. Wasteful. These were all words that could describe Esther. Thirteen years of careless living had left Esther and her young son destitute. When her husband disappears at night, leaving Esther with the full burden of their debt, Esther has no choice but to claim her husband is dead and enslave herself and her child to stay alive. So severely had she broken the relationships in her life, she never expected a man from her childhood to speak on her behalf and carry the weight of her debt. Yet Esther soon realizes that escaping the demons of her past would not be so easy.

Levi had little interest in seeing Esther again. When a promise to her father leaves him honor-bound to take her as his wife, he struggles with the bitterness he holds toward her for allowing her addictions and selfishness to derail her life. Yet, he could not hide the deep desire within him to be a husband and a father, even to a woman he did not love and a child that was not his by blood.

Discover the story of a reckless woman in A Path to Forgiveness.

Hi Lisa! Welcome to the blog!

Lisa: Winter! I love winter clothing (sweaters, tights, boots, knit hats!). I love cocoa and I love everything to do with Christmas, so winter is the easy choice for me.

Carrie: yes! me too! #kindredspirits

Lisa: Tea!! I am a HUGE tea enthusiast (to the point where I am an addict). There’s a tea shop near my house where once a month I go with my sister for High tea. I am also a big fan of Indian chai, which in my family we call “Chaiya”. I make it at home three times a day but I love Starbucks chai lattes as well!

Carrie: I don’t like tea (or coffee, for that matter) but I DO love tea shops & going to high tea with my mom. (I get hot chocolate like a little girl haha)

Lisa: I’ve always been a Coke fan! I visited the Coca-Cola factory in Disney Springs a few times to taste Coke around the world! I also enjoy Coke’s branding and merchandising. (I have a little Coca-Cola polar bear in my room!)

Carrie: we really are kindred spirits 🙂

Lisa: Ebook. I usually am reading a few books simultaneously and ebooks help me stay mobile since they’re easy for packing and traveling around with.

Carrie: ebooks are super handy for that!

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Lisa: I would say it’s baking although I am not refined or finessed enough to compete in a baking competition! I just love it! I don’t focus on decorating or having to make everything from scratch, taste is what matters to me. I will proudly use cut out decorations or box mixes when needed. My favorite things to make are blueberry muffins and pecan pies!

Carrie: coincidentally two of my favorite things to eat 😀

Q: Which books are “on your nightstand”?

Lisa: I treated myself over Christmas with a signed copy of Tessa Afshar’s Land of Silence. I also recently re-read the Harry Potter series and have the screenplay of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child on my nightstand.

Carrie: that is one of my very favorite Tessa Afshar books! (and I love the Harry Potter series!)

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Lisa: How long is a horse’s gestation period. If you’re curious it’s 11-12 months LOL. I had a scene in one of my books, Awakening, where the main character was looking over a dispute around a horse that was sold, but the owner at the time didn’t realize the horse was pregnant. I had to make sure an accurate amount of time past before the horse’s pregnancy was discovered.

Carrie: poor horses – that’s a long time to be pregnant lol

Q: Were there any songs that inspired you as you wrote A Path to Forgiveness?

Lisa: I mention in the author notes of A Path to Forgiveness, that Nicole C. Mullen’s Redeemer, inspired me to choose the name Redeemer to refer to God in The Prodigal Woman series.  I’ve always loved that song, but this verse always hits me: The same God that spins things into orbit, runs to the weary, the worn, and the weak. And the same gentle hands that hold me when I’m broken, they conquered death to bring me victory. I thought it reflected well to the broken places in the lives of the main characters, Esther and Levi, in my story, and the healing they desperately seek.

Carrie: yes! amen.

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Lisa: I usually always start with a high-level outline, just to ensure I have a flow to the story. However, as I start to build a story out, in many ways it starts to write itself and ends up in a different direction then I initially outlined.

Carrie: that process always fascinates me

Q: What is one of your favorite quotes from A Path to Forgiveness & why do you love it?

Lisa: My favorite quote of the book is actually the very last sentence: “All the things that once used to shame me, and keep me trapped in doubt and fear, had become the very evidence that I was a woman redeemed.” God never gave us a spirit of fear, doubt, guilt, and shame, but those emotions and feelings tend to be the things that trap us and make us doubt Him. We start weighing our worth on our choices and experiences instead of on what Christ has already done in our lives. A Path to Forgiveness is a story of repentance and receiving God’s overflowing mercy and grace and accepting that we are children REDEEMED.

Carrie: amen & amen – i love that!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Lisa: A Path to Forgiveness is book 1 of my new series, A Prodigal Woman series! I am working on book 2 and 3 which I tease in this book, A Path to Acceptance (targeted for 2023), and A Path to Healing (targeted for 2024)!
