THE ADOPTION SURPRISE by Zoey Marie Jackson
GENRE: Inspirational Contemporary Romance (Sweet/Clean)
PUBLISHER: Harlequin Love Inspired
RELEASE DATE: February 22, 2022
Separated at birth and determined to become a family.
“She looks like me!” When her orphaned niece utters those words, Kelsey Harris is shocked—not only that Morgan has a long-lost twin but that the grieving five-year-old spoke at all. Overjoyed by Morgan and Mia’s instant connection, Kelsey and Zach Johnson, Mia’s widowed adoptive father, agree to be friends—and only friends. But can they ignore their growing feelings when the matchmaking sisters put their plan into action?
From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.
Hi Zoey! Welcome to the blog!
Zoey: Tea. I have never acquired a taste for coffee. So, if I were to get a fancy coffee maker, believe me, it would be making hot cocoa. My favorite teas are ginger and peppermint.
Carrie: I’ve never acquired a taste for coffee OR tea. I’m all about the hot chocolate!
Zoey: Netflix all the way. I remember they started with DVDs that you could watch and then return. Now, look where they are.
Carrie: haha so true! I remember being so excited when another red envelope showed up in the mail 😛
Zoey: Over. I have thought long and hard about this and this is way to go. It makes getting the paper easier and it is neater.
Carrie: I keep trying to rally people to the ‘under’ side of this debate but to no avail lol
Zoey: Pepsi, of course. I admit, I was quite addicted when I was younger. I usually try to get a different carbonated drink without caffeine.
Carrie: Now, Zoey…. ‘over’ i can forgive but not Pepsi. 😉 (kidding. mostly. lol)
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Zoey: I will borrow my husband’s idea and say, I would clone myself. That way while I am writing, I can have chores done, dinner cooked and workout.
Carrie: oh wouldn’t that be lovely?!?
Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.
Zoey: Man, I could write a book talking about some good books. By Her Own Design by Piper Huguley tells the story of Ann Lowe, the fashion designer and is an excellent read. The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray was my first read of the year and I was glued learning about Belle passing for white and working for J.P.Morgan. Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson—when I tell you this is a raw, gritty tale that will stay with you—I talked about this book for days. I am also becoming a major Vanessa Riley fan. I have read her upcoming books—Murder in Westminister and A Duke, A Spy, An Artist and A Lie and I am telling you, the writing is solid, humor present and the storyline will keep you reading. I am now reading Toni Shiloh’s In Search of a Prince and all I can say is, it is doing that beautiful cover proud.
Carrie: Toni’s book is just perfection – I adore it! And By Her Own Design and The Personal Librarian are both on my TBR-soon list. I also really really need to read a Vanessa Riley book soon.
Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?
Zoey: I think my characters would say I am compassionate, nonjudgmental and I try to find the good in everyone.
Carrie: wonderful qualities for an author to have 🙂
Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing The Adoption Surprise, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?
Zoey: Generally, I have a synopsis completed. A guide for how I believe the story will go. I will also plot out the first chapter or so. But I am a pantser for the most part. I love to just let the characters be—let them breathe—and see where they want to go. That’s what makes their journey authentic and interesting to me because I am experiencing what they are right along with them.
Carrie: that process completely fascinates me!
Q: What is something God taught you while you wrote The Adoption Surprise?
Zoey: In The Adoption Surprise, God taught me how we can’t hold onto pain and hurt from the past. We also know that as believers, all things work out for our good.
Carrie: amen ♥
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Zoey: I am currently going through the editing process of my second book with Harlequin Love Inspired which releases later this year under my pen name Zoey Marie Jackson. Please subscribe to my newsletter to learn more about my upcoming books.

The book blurb sets up an interesting story. I am always fascinated by writers who are pantsers because I would be a 100% plotter.
pantsers fascinate me too!
A captivating and wonderful story.
I just have to know how this long lost twin came about!

It sounds like a really interesting book. Thank you for sharing.
I like the sweet cover!
The cover is adorable. Love these kind of books.
I have to agree with Carrie, Coke is far better than Pepsi. Though, this is now a new debate in our household. My MIL loved Pepsi. My husband wasn’t a fan. The college my oldest attends is strictly a Pepsi product college. She has now decided she loves Pepsi. But….as parents, we don’t buy Pepsi in the house. 🙂
I can’t wait to read this book!
The cover is adorable!
I’d love to read this book. I enjoyed the Q & A with the author.
