Hi Amy! Welcome to the blog!

Amy: Summer! I work very hard all year so my girls and I can take time off from a busy schedule and bask in the sun soaked days. We live in the very cold midwest, so as much as snow is lovely, we adore every minute of the 3 warm months we get.

Carrie: Yeah that’s a good point – if i still lived in the very cold midwest i would probably enjoy summer more. But here in Georgia where we don’t get winter…

Amy: Tea, with plenty of milk! I have British heritage and delight in the variety of flavors! Coffee is a bit too bitter for my taste.

Carrie: hmm maybe that’s what i should do in order to like tea … liberally douse it with milk haha

Amy: Since I write and illustrate, this depends on which realm of my work I am engaged in! I am quite in love with audiobooks while I paint so I never lose a moment where I can be learning something new. But if I am writing a new book, nothing beats beautiful music to inspire my thoughts.

Carrie: I love that answer!

Amy: Ocean, always!

Carrie: yay!

Amy: Always print, no matter what! Nothing compares to flipping the pages with my hands (especially a Childrens picture book) or writing notes in the margin.

Carrie: For children’s books or non-fiction, it has to be print for me, too – for those exact reasons.

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Amy: What a lovely concept. Mine might be something like, seeing beauty in my every day surroundings. I am constantly enamored by creation and relationships and the beauty that can be found within them. This is actually a huge part of our newest book release Good Morning, Little One! It is all about how we can find God all throughout creation and how He carries us every day when we put our trust in Him!

Carrie: that’s beautiful!

Q: Which books are “on your nightstand”?

Amy: Currently I have CS Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters,  John Macarthur’s Sanctification, Jen Wilkin’s Women of the Word, and Hal Lindsay’s The Late Great Planet Earth. On a lighter note 🙂 our girls and I are also reading Anne of Green Gables and the American Girl Book Series of Felicity, Addie, Molly and Kiersten. They are delightful!

Carrie: awww how sweet!! (PS – I love that book by Jen Wilkin!)

Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Good Morning Little One?

Amy: YES! I’m so glad you asked. Every page is interactive and serves as an awesome devotional for you and your young readers. Since the book talks about how we can find God in nature, we hid each specific scripture addresses within each nature-themed painting.  My hope is that children will hide God’s word away in their heart (Psalm 119), by associating each verse and painting with these foundational, life-changing promises from Our Great God!

Carrie: oh i love that!!!

Q: What do you most want young readers to take away from Good Morning, Little One?

Amy: I wrote Good Morning Little One as a response to a profound question, our 3 year old kept asking during the pandemic: “Is God Carrying Us?” I was thrilled to tell her “Yes! He Is Carrying us! And not only this, but we can find Him everywhere we look in creation!” Our prayer is that before your child starts their day, they can be affirmed with these timeless truths. That when we put our faith in God, we can have freedom from fear, experience unmatched hope, and obtain insurmountable Joy, as He carries them through each day!

Dont have time in the morning? Not problem! These timeless affirmations are wonderful reminders morning, noon and night!

Carrie: amen ♥

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Amy: We have a few literally projects we are discussing right now, which I cannot wait to share!
