“I didn’t do right by your mother. Or by you. Find her and do what I never had the courage to do.”

Her father’s deathbed confession changed everything for Aspen Kincaid. The mystery of her mother’s disappearance was unsolvable, or so she’d believed.

It seemed her dad had lied to her all her life.

After inheriting a house in New Hampshire—a house Aspen hadn’t known her father owned—she travels thousands of miles, desperate to fulfill his dying wish. But some residents of Coventry don’t want Jane Kincaid’s daughter digging into things they think should remain buried forever.

Renovating the secluded old house on the mountain should be the next step in Garrett McCarthy’s contracting career, but Aspen’s arrival in town stirs up old animosities in Coventry that he’d known nothing about. All he wants is to complete the job, hoping it’ll open doors to new opportunities. But when he’s asked to keep an eye on Aspen’s activities, he feels he can’t refuse. How can he honor his beautiful, vulnerable client and remain loyal to the people who need his help?

Join Aspen and Garrett as they attempt to solve a thirty-year-old mystery—without becoming its latest victims.

Page-turning suspense, heartwarming romance, and a plot-twisting mystery that’ll keep you guessing until the very end. Preorder Inheritance of Secrets today.

Hi Robin! Welcome to the blog!

Robin: Apples, hands down. I grew up in a little town in southern New Hampshire that was filled with apple orchards. The trees bloomed in the spring with the prettiest white flowers, and every fall, fat, fragrant applies enticed passersby to pluck them off. There’s a little shop just ten minutes from my old house that sells apple butter, apple jelly, apple cider, apple bread, apple pie, and apple cobbler—not to mention apples by the bushel. Just thinking about it fills my memory with their sweet scent. Apple is the flavor of home.

Carrie: oh man, my mouth is watering now!

Robin: Yes, please. Every morning, I make a full pot of coffee, share a cup with my husband, and drink the rest myself. I’ve had to switch to half-caffeine to keep from zooming away. But I choose tea on chilly afternoons to warm me up and keep me awake.

Carrie: best of both worlds!

Robin: We watch a lot of Netflix in our house (and other streaming services as well). They tell me we don’t get the Hallmark Channel. I suspect they’re not being honest, but I’d have to figure out how to use the remote control to prove it.

Carrie: haha!

Robin: Though I love the coast, I’m a mountain girl all the way. And not just mountains, but mountains covered in trees. Because the only thing better than mountains are forests.

Carrie: yes please!

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Robin: If I could choose any superpower in the entire world, I’d choose to be able to fly. (My parents named me well—I love the forest, and I love to fly!) But in reality, the thing I’m really good at is much less exciting. Grammar. How sad is that?

Carrie: LOL well… grammar IS a much needed superpower these days, even if it’s not as fun as flying 🙂

Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.

Robin: I’d been planning to read C.C. Warrens’s “Criss Cross” series for years, and I finally did. Wow. Three amazing stories that kept me turning pages. I picked up Pepper Basham’s “Mistletoe Countess” at Christmastime and loved it, so I read a couple of her books recently, “Just the Way You Are” and “When You Look at Me.” Both were excellent reads. And last week, I finished “We Belong Together” by Beth Moran, an English author I’d never heard of. It wasn’t Christian fiction, but it was clean and well-written, and I loved the descriptions of the little English town where it took place.

Carrie: those are three of my fave Pepper Basham books! I loved the one Beth Moran book I read so definitely need to read that one too – and I’ve also been meaning to read the Criss Cross series for a while. So little time, so many great books to read …

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Robin: There’ve been so many fun Google searches over the years. The one I remember most vividly happened when I was researching “Beauty in Flight” and typed into Google: “How to kill an old person without getting caught.” What made it so memorable was the plethora of suggestions out there. Fortunately, no elderly friends died in my life (which might’ve landed me in prison!)—or in the book, for that matter. Which was good, because the elderly gentleman in question, Red, remains one of my favorite characters.

Carrie: oh dear… LOL

Q: Which character in Inheritance of Secrets was the most difficult to write?

Robin: In “Inheritance of Secrets,” the most difficult character was the heroine’s mother, Jane. She’s missing and presumed dead in the main timeline. But in the story, we go back in time and meet her. Jane was suffering from mental illness. She was incredibly passionate and had high ideals. She was a good person who didn’t always know right from wrong because of her mental state. There are so many people in our society suffering from mental illness who don’t have access to the help they need. It breaks my heart to think about.

Carrie: so very true & definitely heartbreaking

Q: What surprised you about Inheritance of Secrets or your characters as you wrote their story?

Robin: Honestly, I was surprised when I discovered the villain. I thought I knew whodunit, but in the end… Nope. I can’t talk about it. I don’t want to give anything away.

Carrie: awwww c’mon … 😉

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Inheritance of Secrets?

Robin: I tend to write about identity a lot, and this story is no different. My heroine grows up knowing her mother was mentally ill—and fearing she will be too. She has to learn—as all of us have to learn—that we are each the handiwork of a loving Creator, and He gets to define us. The world may tell us we’re less than or unworthy, but God tells us we’re precious, priceless, and beloved.

Carrie: amen ♥

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Robin: I’m in the throes of writing “Lineage of Corruption,” the next installment of the Coventry Saga, which delves into politics and corruption at the highest levels of government. It releases July 19.

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield and Coventry Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. Working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet.
