With Shaun Hadley’s surprise arrival, Erin dreams of a second chance at romance with the guy she broke up with in college. But Shaun isn’t the same man she once loved, and she blames herself.
As an easygoing college computer geek, Shaun let Erin’s rejection light a determined fire under him. Today, he’s a successful businessman seeking to relax. Letting go of his workaholic ways is harder than he’d imagined, even when it threatens both his health and a renewed relationship with the love of his life.
What hope do they have when Shaun can’t slow down, and Erin refuses to stand up for herself and their future…again?
Celebrate springtime in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains in this second chance romance, part of the Love at Christmas Inn series.
Hi Sandra! Welcome to the blog!
Sandra: Oranges. They’re a fruit staple for me. I like a certain texture of apple, but they’re too hard to pick out, no matter the type.
Carrie: I’m very picky about my apple textures too – but I’m allergic to oranges so i’ve never had the alternative. Just as well that I prefer apples 🙂
Sandra: Coffee is my go juice in the mornings. On those days (usually winter) when I drink hot tea, it’s generally Earl Grey. On the rare occasions I drink iced tea, it’s sweet, and I prefer a certain fast food place where they make liquid sugar.
Carrie: hmm i wonder if that’s the same fast food place where I prefer to get my diet cokes (McDonalds) or the one where I prefer to get my chicken nuggets (Chick-Fil-A) lol
Sandra: Coke if it’s regular. Pepsi if it’s diet. It’s those crazy tastebuds of mine.
Carrie: I’m a Diet Coke girl all the way!
Sandra: Mountains. We live within 2-3 hours of each but rarely make it to the ocean. Hubby and I enjoy the mountains (with the exception of going up, down, and around them. 😊)
Carrie: those are valid exceptions😊
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Sandra: Tough one. I guess I’d have to say it’s saving the world from boredom, one book at a time.
Carrie: haha love that!
Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
Sandra: When I walk into a bookstore, I head straight to the Christian fiction section. My books are never there (one can dream, and they are available at the various retailers online), but I like to see what is on the shelf, the size of the selection, and whether my friends’ books are there. A thrill goes through me when I see books by people I’ve met and associated with. (I’m easily entertained.)
Carrie: I’m the same way!
Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?
Sandra: For starters, it better be sitting on something. I wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself trying to pick it up. What you’d learn is that I will never be like my daughter who carries a teeny-tiny purse nothing fits into. My purse is my home away from home with zipped pockets and multiple cubby holes all filled with the necessities of life. I’ve tried to cut down. Really, I have.
Q: Which of your main characters in Love in Second Bloom is most like you?
Sandra: Definitely Erin Ward. I can be pretty indecisive and take a long time to make up my mind about something.
Carrie: i can definitely be that way sometimes too
Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Love in Second Bloom?
Sandra: I’m not sure if it’s your definition of hidden. Love in Second Bloom is my first story in the Love at Christmas Inn series of novellas from multiple authors. I’ll be doing three in total. Though I don’t think it’s obvious (until now 😊), in this first one I introduce two characters who get their stories told in the second and third novellas, Leaving the Past Behind and Lost in Winter’s Wonderland. All three books release this year.
Carrie: oh yay! how fun!
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes from Love In Second Bloom & why do you love it?
Sandra: Love in Second Bloom is a second-chance romance between two people who broke up in college and meet again in a small town in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Shaun has just moved into a luscious log home, and Erin has helped him arrange his belongings. I love this part of the scene because I can see it like a movie in my head, and I had fun writing it.
His gaze caught hers and hung on like a drowning man clutching a life ring. Common sense told Erin to turn away. Common sense vanished like a magician’s rabbit when he lowered his voice and said, “You deserve a reward for your hard work.”
“What kind of reward?” she whispered. With that hunger on his face, she convinced herself she’d been wrong when she left last week. He was open to starting again, and her reward today would be a kiss—a long, sweet and delicious kiss.
His gaze dropped to her lips, and he swallowed. The next thing Erin knew, he’d jumped up from the sofa, the bounce jarring her. He rubbed his hands together. “Pancakes.”
She drew back. “P-Pancakes?”
Carrie: ohhhhh so close, Erin! I bet you’ll get your kiss soon though (because he doesn’t *really* want pancakes) #swoon
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Sandra: Thank you for having me, Carrie! I had to really think about the answers to some of those questions. However, I don’t need to think about what’s coming next.
Love in Second Bloom is my first venture into publishing contemporary romance. In the future, I plan to intermingle contemporaries with my historical romances. Set in spring, this book releases May 12 (next week!)—on preorder now.
With its release, preorder will begin for the next fall-set novella, Leaving the Past Behind, which will come out in July. The third, Lost in Winter’s Wonderland, set at Christmas, releases in October.
Next year I hope to release the first three books of a new series of small-town romances set in a fictional North Carolina town. Somewhere, I’ll fit in the last book of my Widow’s Might historical romance series.
Oh my! When I write all that, it’s a little overwhelming, but I’ll do my best. Readers, you can keep up with my schedule through my newsletter. Sign up at sandraardoin.com/newsletter.
