Happy Tuesday! We’re down to the last two posts in our look at this new season of upcoming releases! Tomorrow we’ll finish the week with nonfiction but today I’m diving into Mid 2022 Speculative & Youth Fiction New Releases (May-August). I usually group these together because they are smaller categories as far as books I want to read; however this time around there are several-more-than-usual great-looking children’s books i want to get!

Here is the schedule of posts for the week so you can zero in on your fave genre!

Wednesday: Contemporary Fiction (non-Amish & non-suspense)
Thursday: Historical Fiction (non-Amish & non-suspense)
Saturday: Mystery/Suspense (non-Amish)
Sunday: Amish Fiction
TODAY: Speculative/Youth Fiction
Wednesday: Non-Fiction

In my continued quest to streamline these posts I’m only selecting the few that most caught my eye to spotlight here. I’ll also include links to ALL the May-August 2022 releases, each in their own list by month, not just the ones I’m featuring here on the blog. You can also keep up with 2022’s new books as I learn about them by bookmarking the ‘2022 Releases‘ page on my blog menu & checking it periodically!

I’m breaking down this list into three categories: Children’s, Young Adult, and Speculative just to more clearly define the genres represented here.

children’s books

THE AWESOME SUPER FANTASTIC FOREVER PARTY
Joni Eareckson Tada
illustrated by Catalina Echeverri
The Good Book Company / May 1, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I actually have this book already and it’s so very sweet. The illustrations are gorgeous and really touched me. It wasn’t what I was expecting but it was better!

SHOUT FOR JOY
Jan Spivey Gilchrist
Our Daily Bread / May 3, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

That beautiful cover grabbed my attention, and I love the concept of helping children learn to trust & praise God with a paraphrase of Psalm 100.

100 DAYS OF ADVENTURE
Greta Eskridge
illustrated by Emily Paik
Thomas Nelson / May 3, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

This book looks like so much fun to me, as an aunt of littles! These hands-on learning activities from a homeschooling mom help kids unplug from electronics and engage with each other – and you!

FANNY CROSBY: The Girl Who Couldn’t See But Helped the World to Sing
(Do Good Things for God #6)
Laura Caputo-Wickham
The Good Book Company / June 1, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I’ve always been intrigued by Fanny Crosby’s life, and I love this series that helps kids learn about women who were used by God to change the world.

ALL THE PLACES WE CALL HOME
Patrice Gopo
illustrated by Jenin Mohammed
WorthyKids / June 14, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

The concept of this picture book really appeals to me as someone from a family in which stories were frequent and beloved – “In her first picture book, author Patrice Gopo illuminates how family stories help shape children, help form their identity, and help connect them with the broader world. Her lyrical language, paired with Jenin Mohammed’s richly textured artwork, creates a beautiful, stirring portrait of a child’s deep ties to cultures and communities beyond where she lays her head to sleep.

SHE LED THE WAY
Suzanne Curtis Briggs
Revell / June 14, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

Black history was definitely scarce in my education, so I am passionate about making sure that children learn about the heroes in Black history, too. Heck, I’M still learning about it – and will definitely be reading this one for myself 🙂

YOU’RE ALWAYS ENOUGH: And More Than I Hoped For
Emily Ley
illustrated by Romina Galotta
Thomas Nelson / June 21, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

What a sweet message for kids who struggle with perfectionism (as I did in childhood, through no fault of my parents – it was all me). The book promises to feature “vibrant illustrations of a diverse cast of characters and will enhearten children who are always trying so hard, are afraid of making mistakes, or need reassurance that they are enough exactly as they are.”

LIONS TO THE RESCUE
(Tree Street Kids #3)
Amanda Cleary Eastep
Moody Publishers / July 5, 2022

MYSTERY IN CROOKED CREEK WOODS
(Tree Street Kids #4)
Amanda Cleary Eastep
Moody Publishers / July 5, 2022

Why I’m excited about these books:

I absolutely LOVED the first two books in this series and I have been waiting patiently (or trying to) for these next books. This is such a FUN series, and I adore everything about it!!!

OUR GOD IS BIGGER THAN THAT
Michelle Medlock Adams & Eva Marie Everson
End Game Press / July 19, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

In this current world where there is much more for children to fear than ever before, we need more books to remind them that God is bigger than whatever they’re afraid of. And the illustrations look absolutely adorable!

CARVED IN EBONY: Young Readers’ Edition
Jasmine L. Holmes
Bethany House / August 2, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

The reasons are the same as my reasons for being excited about She Led the Way – Black history was definitely scarce in my education, so I am passionate about making sure that children learn about the heroes in Black history, too.

young adult

VIVID
(Color Theory #1)
Ashley Bustamante
Enclave Escape / May 17, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

This tagline – “DANGER LURKS BEHIND EVERY COLOR” – grabbed my attention when it came to Vivid. I just have to know what the author does with worldbuilding and how everything plays out!

PLACES WE’VE NEVER BEEN
Kasie West
Delacorte Press / May 31, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I love Kasie West’s books, so any time she releases a new one I get excited. This one sounds super sweet & swoony, too – A joint family cross country road trip where two childhood friends become something more.

VEIL OF WINTER
(The Dericott Tales #3)
Melanie Dickerson
Thomas Nelson / June 14, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

The author. The cover. The fairy tale. Seriously, that cover! All the heart eyes. Nobody writes fairy tale retellings like Melanie Dickerson, and I can’t wait for this one!

ENSNARED
(Knights of Brethren #3)
Jody Hedlund
Northern Lights Press / June 14, 2022

ENRICHED
(Knights of Brethren #4)
Jody Hedlund
Northern Lights Press / July 12, 2022

Why I’m excited about these books:

Well, Jody Hedlund wrote them, so of course I’m on board! And if that wasn’t enough, the fact that they are love stories told against the backdrop of the ‘real story of the Holy Grail’ would be!

THE WONDERLAND TRIALS
(The Curious Realities #1)
Sara Ella
Enclave Escape / July 12, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK!! I adore Sara Ella’s books. Part magical realism, part fairy tale, and part dystopian fiction, this retelling of The Wonderland Trials promises to be sooooooo amazing!

REGENT
Cher Gatto
Intangible Press / August 1, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I have heard amazing things about Cher Gatto’s debut novel, and this new one sounds really good too! “Justin has a gift. He “sees” other people’s memories when he draws. But in foster care he stopped drawing. He had to. Now he’s in Regent, a psychiatric boarding school for messed up teens, and Justin is convinced the doctor is erasing his mind.

speculative fiction (adult)

SHADOW OF HONOR
(The Droseran Saga #3)
Ronie Kendig
Enclave / June 14, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I mean… Ronie Kendig wrote this space opera. Do I need to explain further? Marco is being held captive by a monstrous alien race – “The war he fears may be the very one he’s been called to start.” Eija is floundering aboard the alien dreadnought – “Only by uncovering the truth about an ancient conflict now shrouded in deception will she find her place.

THE MAGIC OF LEMON DROP PIE
Rachel Linden
Berkley Books / August 2, 2022

Why I’m excited about this book:

I adore Rachel Linden’s previous books, and I adore stories with magical realism so I am super excited to read this one. Plus that cover just makes me want to cozy up with this book & ignore the rest of the world 🙂

But wait! There’s more!!!

there’s no way I could have included every speculative, children’s, or young adult release for May-August, so I’ve compiled all the new releases by each separate month in these Amazon lists.

add these to your wish list
