The young Amish baker has always wanted a familye of her own and now that she’s fostered Grace for nearly a year, her adoption application is almost certain to be approved. But an unexpected visitor to Hope’s Haven could change everything…
Englischer paramedic Mike Colder is only returning to his childhood hometown to locate and adopt his late sister’s baby. But when the trail leads to Hannah and Grace, Mike’s determination falters. With Hannah, the simple life he left behind suddenly seems appealing. Despite their wildly different worlds, can Mike and Hannah give each other—and Grace—the greatest gift of all: a life together?

Hello everyone. I’m pleased to be here today and to give you a little taste of what you’ll find in my new release, Her Amish Springtime Miracle.
Mike Colder, the hero in Her Amish Springtime Miracle is looking for his nephew, the child of his now deceased sister. Unfortunately his search is made difficult by a number of factors.
First his sister, an unmarried college student, hid her pregnancy and gave the baby up soon after it was born. So it is only after her death, when Mike stumbles on the journal, that he discovers he has a nephew.
Second, the entries in the journal stop a few weeks before the child is born. The only clues Mike has are that the child is a born, it was born about a year before the story opens and his sister intended to leave it in the are of Amish country their father was from.
So all of that is backstory to what I wanted to bring to you today. When I was researching the various places and ways a mother could safely abandon her baby I stumbled across something called a Safe Haven Baby Box, a device I’d never heard of before.
What is a SHBB? It’s a device that allows a mother who needs or wants to anonymously surrender her baby to do so legally (under the Safe Haven Law) and safely. The box is installed in an accessible outside wall of the designated hospital or firehouse. It has a door on the outside for use by the mother who places the infant inside. This door will then automatically lock, protecting the child, and an alarm will sound, alerting the personnel inside the station or hospital. The person who is monitoring the SHBB can then access the surrendered child via an internal door and secure and care for the infant until he/she can be handed off to the appropriate child services staff.
It’s an ingenuous way to make certain the abandoned child is safe and protected as much as possible. You can learn more about the device and the organization behind it at their website https://shbb.org/
And of course I used this in my book. Mike is a paramedic so the first place he checks in with is the local fire house, which he learns not only has one of these devices but that a baby boy was left there in the appropriate timeframe, convincing him he has a strong lead on finding his nephew.
And I’ll leave it there – I don’t want to drop any spoilers here 😊
