It’s not every day you bring a boyfriend back as a souvenir.
Katie Wilhite is ready to settle into her new job as a librarian now that college is through, but friends Bree and Skye want one more girls’ trip, and when Bree insists this is her bachelorette fling, Katie agrees. What she didn’t agree to was allowing fun and flighty Skye to dictate the itinerary or for her anxiety to kick in harder than ever … right in front of a cute guy.
Camden Malone had no idea when he agreed to be the voice of reason on his cousin Ryan’s vacation that the trip wouldn’t stay in New Orleans as planned. But when Ryan plots with Skye so that the guys can tag along with the girls all week, he isn’t nearly as upset as he should be. Not with Katie’s fiery temper and flashing eyes intriguing him more by the minute.
Can Katie relax enough to trust Camden and a possible future, or will she continue to push him away as only a vacation fling? And can Camden move past a rocky history of his own to be able to jump into a better future? For a trip that was supposed to be all about fun, there’s a lot of romance going around.
I’ve been on about 3 road trips with friends, and all were with people I’d met over the internet … to go hang out with more people I’d met over the internet. LOL. My mother just knew I was going to be kidnapped by an ax murderer, but I’m happy to report that the craziest person in each of these situations was me 😉
Katie’s post-graduation road trip with her two besties has barely begun when she’s beaned in the head with a high-powered volleyball and falls into the pool, only to be rescued by the cute guy responsible. Imagine how my mom would have felt about that! #axmurderer haha (Love you, Mom!) I instantly liked Camden (aka Prince Charming) – he’s mature (in stark contrast to his cousin Ryan) and considerate, he loves Jesus, and his interactions with Katie & her friends are always full of respect. I liked Katie too (though i didn’t relate to her as much), but I really liked Camden and Katie together. They bring out the best in each other, which is one thing I always look for in fictional relationships I’m reading about, and they gird up each other’s weaknesses. There’s definite attraction between them, too, and the sparks from their first kiss could set off their own fireworks show!
As this is the first book in a new series, there’s also some setting up of future books. Enter Bree & Skye, Katie’s best friends & road trip companions. Bree – and the stunning twist to her story – most draws me, but I’ve also found that sometimes the supporting characters I like the least (ahem. Skye.) end up being the main characters of the stories I like the most. So I’m definitely not writing off flighty & seemingly-selfish Skye yet; instead I’m looking forward to where her story will go.
Bottom Line: Destination Romance by Amy R. Anguish is a fun and lighthearted romance that also doesn’t shy away from meatier topics like forgiveness, PTSD and trauma. I loved watching Camden and Katie fall in love, and I enjoyed traveling vicariously to New Orleans, Gulf Shores, and Memphis on the pages of their story. (I live in Atlanta so I just vicariously waved as they drove past me lol.) If you’re looking for a sweet summer romance that will touch your heart, make sure Destination Romance is on your TBR list!

My Rating: 4 stars / loved it!
KissingBook Level: 3 / will forget to breathe on occasion
Amy R Anguish grew up a preacher’s kid, and in spite of having lived in seven different states that are all south of the Mason Dixon line, she is not a football fan. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her husband, daughter, and son, and usually a bossy cat or two. Amy has an English degree from Freed-Hardeman University that she intends to use to glorify God, and she wants her stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good.
