Hi Sarah! Welcome to the blog!
Sarah: Winter! I really dislike sweating, so would rather shiver than perspire. Since I’ve lived in Virginia nearly my entire life, you think I’d have adapted to the heat and humidity of a Virginia summer, but no, I’d much prefer to be cold than hot.
Carrie: Same! I would always rather be cold than hot.
Sarah: This is an easy one! Cats, of course. They’re the perfect companion, don’t require a lot of upkeep, and keep your lap warm all year round. We currently have three, all Siamese, two of which don’t have teeth (but can eat just fine).
Carrie: dogs do require a lot of upkeep, that’s true – but they’re so loyal & loving!
Sarah: Tea, of course. I’ve never liked the taste of coffee—much too bitter for me, even though I have tried a variety of brews. I’ve always loved tea, and am a bit obsessed with Harney & Sons brand of tea. I usually have two cups of a black tea blend in the morning (with a little sugar and cream) and most often end my day with two cups of decaf black tea. I don’t like green teas at all, and don’t often drink herbal, but give me a nice cuppa strong, black tea and I’m in heaven.
Carrie: I feel the same way about coffee… but I also feel that way about tea haha
Sarah: Mountains all the way. I like the beach for a day or two, but much prefer to spend my time in the cooler mountains (do you sense a theme here?). The variations of topography and the wildlife and views really restore my soul. I also love camping, which is so much nicer in the mountains.
Carrie: the mountains are my happy place 🙂
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Sarah: Flying! That’s one thing I’ve always dreamed about (literally—I’ve had many dreams of flying) and something I think would be super neat to do without an airplane or wings of my own.
Carrie: a flying superpower would make travel so much easier, too!
Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
Sarah: Mystery/suspense/thriller, followed by Christian fiction, followed by romance. As a romantic suspense writer, that should [not] be a surprise to anyone!
Carrie: haha true
Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?
Sarah: How to kill someone with Anthrax (without killing everyone nearby). For a story. Seriously.
Carrie: oh dear… LOL
Q: Do you have the whole plot outlined before you start writing, or do you let the characters dictate what comes next?
Sarah: I wish I could outline the entire plot, but I generally start with the main plot and characters, and I usually have an idea as to where I’ll end up with the suspense/mystery part, but how I get there is anyone’s guess! The characters often tell me along the way, and sometimes, I’ll have written something earlier without really thinking about it, and later on, I realize how it ties into the overall mystery/suspense part of the book. Weird the way the mind works sometimes.
Carrie: i think that’s so fascinating!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Vanished Without a Trace?
Sarah: That God is a God of hope, that no matter what your circumstances seem to dictate, we don’t know the final outcome—and we might never know this side of heaven. But God knows, and that should give us hope, no matter the situation.
Carrie: that’s such a comfort, isn’t it? To know that He knows ♥
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Sarah: I’m working on book 2 in my Cold War Legacy trilogy, which will be out in fall 2022. Book one, The Dark Guest, is available now.
