Rogue CIA agent Amalia Pérez and her protection K-9 must get the edge on this deadly opponent before he kills her childhood best friend—the only man who knows her true identity.
Investigative journalist Michael Barrett can’t believe his eyes when the woman he’s spent years searching for walks back into his life. But he soon fears the woman he loved is lost forever beneath the secrets Amalia wears like armor.
As the assassin closes in, Amalia will risk anything to keep Michael safe—anything except believing in the God he trusts. When the layers of deception become as dangerous as bullets, can Amalia and Michael uncover the truth in time to stop the assassin from completing his lethal mission?

Hi Jerusha! Welcome back to the blog!
Jerusha: Both! I’ve always been a person who has music playing all the time, and I write to music. But recently, I’ve discovered the fun of audiobooks that enable me to “read” a good book while I do other things!
Carrie: I almost always have music playing too! No audiobooks for me though 🙂
Jerusha:Over. Under is just wrong. So wrong.
Carrie: so i’ve been told haha
Jerusha: Sandwich! I adore hot sandwiches and panini, especially. I think it’s the carbs. I can never get enough carbs. 😊
Carrie: Carbs are the most delicious food group for sure 🙂
Jerusha: Board game. The card games I’ve played seem to be purely about how the cards fall rather than knowledge or skill. (Which is probably an insulting thing to card sharks out there. No offense! My ignorance is likely showing. LOL)
Carrie: you’re not wrong. lol. It does take skill to know how to play with what you’ve been dealt but… if you’re dealt a lousy hand not even skill can help.
Q: Which books are ‘on your nightstand’?
Jerusha: Fault Lines by Voddie T. Bauchum, Jr. (in audiobook), Tough as Steele by Susan Sleeman, The House on Dagger Point by Christy Barritt, Woman in Shadow by Carrie Stuart Parks, and Protecting Her Witness by Sarah Hamaker
Carrie: ooo excellent reading choices!
Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?
Jerusha: I think they’d say I try my best to understand each of them as individuals and tell their stories truthfully. But they’d probably also say I can be pretty mean because I force them to face their greatest fears and take them to the end of themselves and their resources. Hopefully, they’d realize I do that because that’s where God meets them, saves them, and redeems them for the glorious eternal life of hope, love, and joy they never knew they could have.
Carrie: i love that!
Q: Which of your main characters in Covert Danger is most like you?
Jerusha: The hero, Michael Barrett, in that we both share a passion for the truth—speaking the truth, shining light on the truth, and living by the truth.
Carrie: I think I’ll find myself in Michael too then 🙂
Q: Which character in Covert Danger was the most difficult to write?
Jerusha: Amalia Pérez, the heroine, posed some special challenges. As a rogue CIA operative, she has buried herself so deeply in a life of deception that she doesn’t even know who her true self is anymore. I enjoyed the special challenge of accurately portraying her self-created and God-given personalities and showing a change from one to the other.
Carrie: oh wow! That’s really intriguing!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Covert Danger?
Jerusha: That truth matters. Not just as a philosophical idea but as an essential foundation of life and everything in this world and beyond. I hope readers see through Amalia’s and Michael’s story that believing truth is relative and living according to lies is damaging, having far-reaching consequences for not only that individual but society as a whole. And I hope readers will be impacted by the power they can have to enact positive change through seeking and living by the only infallible Truth—Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life as He is revealed in the Bible!
Carrie: amen & amen!
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Jerusha: I’ve begun working on the next book in the Guardians Unleashed Series, Unseen Danger.
I’m looking forward to giving Nevaeh Williams, another Phoenix K-9 Agency team member, her time in the limelight in this book. Nevaeh is spirited and fun-loving but has inner battles she’s fighting. I think her life-of-the-party personality, and her struggles, will make her a fun and relatable heroine for this suspense-filled story.
Unseen Danger, Book 3 in the Guardians Unleashed Series, is slated to release in early 2023!
Jerusha Agen imagines danger around every corner, but knows God is there, too. So naturally, she writes romantic suspense infused with the hope of salvation in Jesus Christ. Jerusha loves to hang out with her big furry dogs and little furry cats, often while reading or watching movies.
