I’m delighted to welcome one of my favorite people back to the blog today! Stephenia H. McGee is here to talk about her new historical romance The Secrets of Emberwild and give us a virtual tour of the Emberwild Horse Farm!

THE SECRETS OF EMBERWILD by Stephenia H. McGee
GENRE: Inspirational Historical Romance
PUBLISHER: Revell
RELEASE DATE: October 4, 2022
PAGES: 320

A gifted trainer in a time women are not allowed to race, Nora Fenton prefers horses to men. They’re easier to handle, they’re more reliable, and they never tell her what to do. After her father’s passing, Nora is determined to save her struggling horse farm, starting with entering her prize colt into the harness races at the 1905 Mississippi Fair. If she wins, she may have a chance at independence. But when a stranger arrives and starts asking disconcerting questions, she suspects he may have other motives than unseating her in the training job that is rightfully hers.

Silas Cavallero will do whatever it takes to solve the mystery of his father’s death–even if it means training an unwieldy colt for Nora, who wants nothing more than to see him gone. But when mysterious accidents threaten their safety and circumstances shrouded in secrets begin unlocking clues to his past, Silas will have to decide if the truth is worth risking ruining everything for the feisty woman he’s come to admire.

Hello and welcome! I’m Miss Nora Fenton, and I am pleased to show you around my home today.

Welcome to Emberwild! First, we will start with a look at Emberwild’s stables. Watch out for Roger. He’s a vinegary sort and not particularly keen on seeing women in what he thinks is his domain. But of course we care little about that, don’t we?

Ah, here we are. This is the barn. We have two stud and four large foaling stalls as well as twenty more for the mares and their foals. The stalls open up to outdoor paddocks where the foals can play.

Look! Though the window over here you can see one of my favorite little ones, Sunshine, practicing her gallop. Isn’t she precious?

Over here is Arrow’s stall. My big, beautiful boy is going to be the saving grace for all of us here at Emberwild. As soon as he completes his time trails and is breed registered, the buyers will be flocking to the farm for breeding rights and yearling purchases.

Arrow is a trotter, and he will be racing in the harness race this year at the Neshoba County Fair. Won’t you, boy? He’s still a little shy about the harness, but we’ll get there. There’s not a faster trotter in all of Mississippi. Possibly the entire country. I’m sure of it. Why, I think he will even beat out the famous Dan Patch someday.

Let’s head out to the carriage shed, shall we? This is what I’m working on hooking Arrow up to. This is a racing sulky. It’s very light. But you do have to watch the turns, because they are prone to tipping over.

Over here is our practice track. Arrow will be ready for that soon.

That’s about it, except for the house.  When my father built for my mother, she said it resembled a doll’s house with all this molding. I tend find it a gilded prison, but that’s because…well, never mind that. We won’t be able to visit inside today, I’m afraid, since Father is very ill.

How about you saddle up? The pastures are beautiful this time of morning for a ride.

Enjoy the views!
