“Katie Powner’s engaging story will pull you in and leave you in wonder at that deep, blue sky.“–CHRIS FABRY, author and radio host
Sometimes the hardest road of all is the road home. When confident and handsome Eric Larson is sent to a rural Montana town to work in the local branch of his uncle’s financial company, he’s determined to exceed everyone’s expectations, earn a promotion, and be back in Seattle by the end of summer. Yet nothing could prepare him for the lessons this small town has in store.
At forty-six years old, eccentric and outspoken Eunice Parker has come to accept her terminal illness and has given herself one final goal: seek forgiveness from everyone on her bucket list before her time runs out. But it will take more courage than she can muster on her own.
After an accident pushes Eric and Eunice together, the unlikely pair is forced to spend more time with each other than either would like, which challenges their deepest prejudices and beliefs. As summer draws to a close, neither Eric nor Eunice is where they thought they would be, but they both wrestle with the same important question: What matters most when the end is near?
Hi Katie! Welcome to the blog!
Katie: Oranges, because citrus is such a pick-me-up, while apples give me a stomachache.
Carrie: oh that would make me so sad if I couldn’t eat apples 🙁
Katie: Cats, because dogs have too much energy.
Carrie: but they’re so sweet!! lol
Katie: Over, because people who prefer under are irrational and absurd.
Carrie: hahahaha!
Katie: Print, because I love turning real pages.
Carrie: nothing like it 🙂
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Katie: I think I do have a superpower. I can shop grocery sales like I was bitten by a radioactive coupon.
Carrie: LOL i love that
Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
Katie: I head to the Local section first. I love to see what the local authors are up to. I check out Local Interest books about the history and the remarkable people of the area.
Carrie: that’s a great approach!
Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?
Katie: I once went all the way from Columbus, Ohio, to the West Coast of California on Google Street View because that was the journey my characters needed to take.
Carrie: ok that’s cool
Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Where the Blue Sky Begins?
Katie: Yes. There is a pair of red shoes hidden in each of my novels.
Carrie: how fun!!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Where the Blue Sky Begins?
Katie: The most important thing for readers to take away is that the end is coming. We will all face death someday. So, what do you need to do to be ready for that moment?
Carrie: an important thing for all of us to consider!
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Katie: I’m very happy to be releasing another small-town contemporary story with Bethany House in the fall of 2023!

Well, I have read Katie Powners two other published books and I wouldn’t miss the third! I bought the Kindle version!
I prefer not to collect any more paper and prefer ebook and audiobook. The Kindle book version has text to speech enabled …which means the Kindle will read the book to you in the atomated computer voice. I am explaining that because for any low vision or blind readers this feature is a lifesaver when audiobook format is not available. It doesn’t work on the Kindle app for android, just on the Kindle.
Loved this interview!
Thank you so much for your support, Donna! I appreciate it!

Me too! Thanks for responding!
I like reading stories where people are put together unexpectedly and have to deal with the other persons issues, thus hopefully, making them understand their own better or maybe realize “things could be worse” and then learning from each others experience or life
I love stories like that too, and I also love when this kind of thing happens in real life!
Eric & Eunice sound like such an interesting pair!
Thank you, Patty! I like to think they’re a pretty fascinating duo!
