Tradition Isn’t the Only Thing on the Line This Christmas

As Christmas rounds the bend, Eliza Lee Elliott struggles with her grandfather’s death. Though her faith has carried her through the grief, working at the Appalachian Express has kept her sane, especially her new task of coordinating The Santa Run. Pine Valley’s oldest tradition not only serves the community, the run gives her purpose.

Bennett Olsen is tired of city life. Something’s got to give, and when McCoy Railway purchases the Appalachian Express, it gives in a big way. Supervising the Kentucky acquisition is his chance to slow down and win back the attention of his boss—and father—with a job well done.

When an accident threatens the Santa Run, Eliza and Bennett are pushed together at every turn, making their growing attraction impossible to ignore. As time ticks down to the event, tradition isn’t the only thing in jeopardy. Hearts are on the line, with or without a train on the tracks.

Other Books In This Series

Oh y’all this is such a fun, sweet, Hallmark-y Christmas romance! You will fall in love with the Eastern Kentucky mountain town of Pine Valley (even more so than you may have in The Valentine Proposal) and with Eliza Lee & Bennett too. Not to mention Eliza’s adorable niece Lori and the rest of their family. This story is a recipe that brims with delicious holiday potential, and Pugh delivers it in full, wrapped up in sugar and spice. And it helped me officially mark the opening of Christmas book season!!!

I absolutely related to Eliza Lee in this book, with her tight-knit family, her passion for tradition, and her continued grief over the loss of her grandfather. The same loss that makes her all the more determined to save The Santa Run, an annual charity event to help bring Christmas to needy families in surrounding communities – and a passion project for Eliza’s grandfather. This of course, in true Christmas romance fashion, brings her into direct conflict with Bennett Olson, the corporate representative for the new ‘big city’ owners of the Appalachian Express (the small railroad line that employs Eliza and her brother & sister-in-law). The chemistry between Bennett & Eliza is undeniable, and their sweet romance will have you smiling easily and feeling all the feels. They are both nicely layered and developed characters, and I almost had more fun watching big city Bennett fall in love with small town Appalachia than watching him fall in love with Eliza. Almost. This is me, KissingBooks Fan extraordinaire, after all.

Bottom Line: Reading The Santa Run by Beth Pugh will leave you feeling as though you’ve been wrapped in a big cozy quilt with a mug of hot chocolate in front of a toasty fireplace with Christmas music playing in the background. It’s everything I love in a holiday romance, and it’s even more delightful than its predecessor (which I also enjoyed). Banter, sass, big Kentucky personalities, and holiday cheer share the page with classic romance elements and a warm writing voice, making the town of Pine Valley come alive on the pages. At the same time, the author presents an honest look at grief and the various ways we approach it – as well as the power of community and grace. If you live all year for Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, then you need to grab a copy of The Santa Run!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)
