SO excited to have the marvelous Grace Hitchcock on the blog today to talk about her favorite parts of her new historical romance, His Delightful Lady Delia!

HIS DELIGHTFUL LADY DELIA by Grace Hitchcock
SERIES:
American Royalty #3
GENRE: Inspirational Historical Romance
PUBLISHER: Bethany House
RELEASE DATE: November 1, 2022
PAGES: 368

Behind the curtain, she must put on the performance of a lifetime . . . while love and risk take center stage.

Delia Vittoria’s mother has lost her voice at last. After five years of being her diva mother’s understudy, it is time for Delia to assume her place as the lead soprano onstage behind the Academy of Music’s faded velvet curtain. And she is all that stands between the Academy and its greatest threat–the nouveaux riches’ lavish new Metropolitan Opera House.

Kit Quincy never misses opening night, but when his sister begs him to help get her husband out of an Italian opera star’s arms, Kit accidentally confronts the younger Lady Vittoria instead. When he meets the stunning young diva again, he attempts to make amends, but then finds himself pulled into a society matron’s plot to win the great opera war. To draw attention to Delia Vittoria as the Academy’s new soprano star, Kit is convinced to act as both Delia’s patron and the enigmatic phantom who once haunted the Academy years ago. But when a second phantom appears, more than Delia’s rising career is threatened.

His Delightful Lady Delia is full of yearning and humor and just the right touch of old-fashioned Victorian melodrama.”–SARAH SUNDIN, bestselling author of Until the Leaves Fall in Paris

Thank you so much for having me on your amazing blog, Carrie!

Even from a young age, I was a romantic at heart. One of the reasons I began reading historical romance so voraciously as a teenager was that I knew the story would include a happy ending, usually with the promise of marriage, an engagement, or ending with a wedding. But it was the journey to that happily-ever-after moment that made each story unique. As a writer, I love following the historical-romance blueprint to deliver a satisfying, heart-pounding sweet romance to my readers, along with threads of humor, suspense, mystery, and faith woven throughout.

When I was researching ideas for book three in the American Royalty series, which follow one of my favorite heroes from book one, Kit Quincy, I stumbled upon the great opera-house wars between the new money’s opera house and the Academy’s elite opera house, and the “what if” sequence began. Through further research, I discovered that the original Academy of Music was burned down, and at that moment I knew I had to write my version of a Phantom of the Opera story, one of my all-time favorite Broadway shows I went to see in New Orleans at age six, with the phantom being the cause of the real fire.

One of my favorite parts of His Delightful Lady Delia is when Italian opera star Delia Vittoria is lured by the phantom into an abandoned underwater ballroom, inspired by a real, and quite creepy, Victorian setting that a reader sent to me as an interesting backdrop I might wish to use in the future.

So, if you ever discover an interesting piece of history and want to share it with one of your favorite authors of that time period, you should send it to them because it might just end up in their next book!

Another fun part for me was adding cameo appearances of heroes and heroines from books one and two, My Dear Miss Dupré and Her Darling Mr. Day. It’s always a pleasure as a reader to catch a glimpse of what happened with prior characters in a series, so I knew I had to include them in book three.

I hope you all enjoy the conclusion to the American Royalty series! I had far too much fun writing them. 🙂
