What she expected to be a two-day trek becomes much more daunting when a treacherous snowstorm sets in.

Searching for solitude and respite from his troubling past, the last thing Damien Levette needs in the middle of a mountain blizzard is to tend to another person, but he can’t leave behind the mysterious woman he found half frozen at the edge of a mountain lake.

As they battle both the elements and their distrust of each other, Charlotte and Damien must work together to survive the peril of the mountains–or it could be the downfall of them both.

behind the scenes facts for a daughter’s courage

by Misty M. Beller, author of A Daughter’s Courage

Do you love a peek behind the scenes as much as I do? Getting the scoop on my favorite books and authors is so much fun!

As we celebrate the release of A Daughter’s Courage, I’d love to take you behind the curtain for an inside look at some details very few people know. 🙂

I was VERY pregnant with our fifth child (and fourth daughter!) when I wrote A Daughter’s Courage. At the end, it was a race to finish the book before I gave birth. I turned in the manuscript on October 29, and Leah was born November 3. Five days to spare!

Do you ever imagine where your favorite authors write the novels you love? If you imagined me sitting at a desk pecking away at my laptop to create A Daughter’s Courage, you would NOT be correct. We had just sold our house (in the housing boom of 2021!) and were living in an RV while we waited for our forever home. Six (almost seven!) people, two dogs, and two cats in one RV. I usually wrote by dictating on my phone, and since I was pretty sick with that pregnancy, I was either sitting on the couch or lying in bed. Not my ideal scenario, but we made it with Divine strength!

You might have heard that the village of Laurent (the setting for this series) is a secret French town, hidden in caves in the Canadian Rockies for a hundred years. What you probably don’t know is that in my original brainstorming for this series, Laurent was actually a secret Viking settlement, hidden away from the rest of the world for a thousand years! We decided that might seem a bit too much like a fantasy novel, so that’s how Laurent came to be. 🙂

Gulliver, the hero’s mule in A Daughter’s Courage, is patterned after a mule my brother and I raised when we were teenagers. We regularly bought, sold, bred, and trained horses as a side job during our teen years, and one of those animals was a beautiful paint mare my brother purchased at an auction. He named her Peach because she was fat as a peach when he purchased her. A few months later, we discovered why . . . She gave birth to a beautiful long-eared

As the foal dried and began to stand, we realized the surprising truth—she was a mule! Since I was the one who did most of the training, I got to spend quite a bit of time with our new mule as I taught her to lead and follow other ground commands. I learned quickly that mules must be handled differently than horses. It’s not so much that they’re stubborn, but you need to convince them that whatever you want them to do was really their idea to begin with. 😉 Little did I realize at the time, some of our young mule’s antics and personality would later be a part of A Daughter’s Courage!

I hope you enjoyed that inside peek, and I pray you love Damien and Charlotte’s story!
