Second Chance Christmas

Welcome back to our annual blog series spotlighting (over 60 again this year) new and recently-released Christmas reads!

Christmas is only 22 days away, according to Google, but of course it’s never too early for Christmas stories, and ’tis the season when I really start craving them (even more than I do the rest of the year lol), so now is the perfect time to jump right into these posts!

Continuing through just after Christmas, I’m going to spotlight several Christmasy releases from 2022. Most days will have more than one post, just FYI. So… snuggle in, grab your fave hot beverage and comfiest blanket, turn on some Christmas tunes and start your bookish Christmas list! Oh… and did I mention there are GIVEAWAYS with EACH POST in this series??!! (Because authors are awesome!)

Sometimes being an author is like standing under the mistletoe and having no idea who is about to walk up and join you.

A lot of readers don’t realize that the behind-the-scenes of Author Wonderland isn’t always all that magical! Covers, for example, are all too often outside of the author’s control. Most publishers will give the author a choice between two mock-ups, but some publishers leave the cover completely to their marketing team. That’s when the author is left holding their breath, waiting to see who they’re about to “kiss” next. ::wink::

That’s why I was so excited to get my cover for Second Chance Christmas! No frogs to kiss here—this cover is the most charming of all princes. My editor informed me that the photo shoot was held at a ranch venue in Canada, so everything you see there is real, including the snow. The cover models they hired for the shoot are also dog-lovers in real life, so there’s no acting—they were genuinely excited to play with the adorable dog you see there with them. And guess what? His name is Guinness, and on the ranch, his nickname is The Deputy. Apparently, he’s a big fan-favorite with guests! (Understandably so.)

Out of all my twenty-plus novels/novellas I’ve written over the years, I’ve never had a cover I didn’t like, but this one goes over and above for me. I love how the models selected even strongly resemble my own stock-photo inspiration models I used when writing the story in its earliest stages. The twinkle lights are life-giving, and the dog’s little tongue poking out—I almost can’t even handle the cuteness factor!

I sincerely hope you enjoy reading Second Chance Christmas and running around the small town of Tulip Mound while it’s all decorated for the holidays. You’ll get to meet Blake and Charlie, the fun and sassy teen girls in the local foster home, and of course, Waffles. (Guinness here did a great job portraying the sweet pooch in my story!) My own dog, a miniature Schnauzer named Cooper, even makes a cameo in this novel. (Waffles wouldn’t let him completely steal the show, though.)

This is a story that is dear to my heart, as I love dogs and teenagers and Christmas, and I hope you’re able to visit the magic between the pages for a moment this season. And—be sure to watch for the sequel coming Christmas 2023!

From my family to yours—Merriest of Christmases.

I love the cover and it makes me want to read this story, my favorite thing about it is that the main characters are obviously dog people and I am as well.
