Even if it costs every secret she’s ever kept.

Fire Department liaison Allen Frees lives with the injuries he sustained as a police officer in a raid gone wrong. Hello Readers!

I can’t believe I get to share such exciting news with you.

Expired Return marks the release of a BRAND NEW series. I partnered with Sunrise Publishing for this endeavor and mentored three fabulous draft authors to create a four book knockout series set in my Last Chance County world.

The original series featured a tight knit group of colleagues, friends and family navigating hairy situations with plenty of gunfights and explosions. The main couple in each book overcame great odds and their own brokenness, to find the path God had for them to walk, and fell in love.

Last Chance County Fire and Rescue won’t disappoint.

From the beginning we knew we needed a whole new set of characters. In the original series, the fire chief turned out to be a bad guy so we decided their department needed some love. We created an engine crew and a rescue squad, a community liaison and a brand new chief. Fan favorite characters from previous books walk on (with their kids in tow) and the action never stops.

At the center of each book is a heartfelt story about how God takes our brokenness and makes us whole.

It was such a joy to create a full cast of characters for this series and even potential future series! These characters feel like my friends, and I can’t wait for the readers to meet—and fall in love with—each of them.

EXPIRED RETURN features two characters from the original series. Allen Frees was a police officer in LCCPD, injured in Expired Betrayal and left paralyzed. He is wheelchair bound for the most part, but has some mobility and is working hard to see how far he can progress. He’s not a man anyone can put boundaries on. He’ll bust through them.

In researching the book I was surprised to discover that not everyone who is wheelchair bound lacks the ability to walk at least part of the time. Some can’t walk at all, but it was a joy to give a voice to those who fight every day against the assumptions that differently abled people make. Allen fights for the life he wants, and I got to show how his strength has nothing to do with what he can and can’t do physically.

Pepper Miller is a veterinary tech who appeared at the end of the series. She’s taking care of her niece for her sister, and her sister is supposed to have come to pick up Victory but never showed. Allen and Pepper dated some before the accident that paralyzed him, but their breakup had nothing to do with his injuries. Still, there was a misunderstanding, and, in the story, the truth comes out. It’s the only way for them to move forward.

My hope and prayer is that this book is entertaining first, then heartwarming, and finally that it is a great reminder that God brings us to the truth and sets us free. We hold ourselves back, but His heart is to see us grow so we can fully realize a full life in Him.
