DAWN’S UNTRODDEN GREEN by Carolyn Miller
SERIES: Regency Wallflowers #3
GENRE: Inspirational Historical/Regency Romance
PUBLISHER: Kregel Publications
RELEASE DATE: April 11, 2023
PAGES: 368

“Highly entertaining, refreshing, and witty. . . . [A] beautifully written, delightful, and faith-filled romance of two endearing hearts.”

–Grace Hitchcock, award-winning author of My Dear Miss Dupré

Not much happens in Theodosia Stapleton’s tiny Northumberland village. Certainly not to her. She has resigned herself to spinsterhood, caring for her ailing mother in the home of her grandfather, known to the locals as “General Contrary.” When her dear friend dies and leaves behind a daughter, it’s simple enough to take the child into her own quiet world. That is, until her ward’s famous uncle unexpectedly arrives and throws Theo’s tidy orbit completely off-kilter.

Fame was the last thing Daniel Balfour sought when he fought in the Peninsular War. But his brave exploits caught the attention of the King, and now the honors he was given hound him everywhere . . . even on his rushed trip to rescue his orphaned niece.

Theo’s quick wit and warm smile reassure him that Rebecca is in good hands, and he finds himself free to swiftly return to London and his responsibilities. But those caring hands are beginning to look like they could also safely hold his heart, and he’s tempted to linger. Unfortunately, marriage is simply not in the cards; the army is spouse enough for him.

Then an accident and a scandal lead both Theo and Daniel to discover that their best-laid plans may not have been what God designed for them after all.

what i learned while writing Dawn’s Untrodden Green

by Carolyn Miller, author of Dawn’s Untrodden Green

Dawn’s Untrodden Green is the third book in the Regency Wallflowers series (which all can be read as standalones) but I wrote it at a time when there was a lot of uncertainty in life, especially concerning my writing career. I’d written twelve other Regencies and had dabbled in writing contemporary romance (thus returning to my contemporary roots), and I felt like this was another one of those moments of pivot that happen in life when you dare to trust God for something new. In this book we have a heroine, Theodosia Stapleton, who is caught in some of the ruts of life that she now feels is her lot in life, and from which she’ll never break free. That is until Captain Daniel Balfour, a highly decorated soldier just returned from the Napoleonic wars, crosses paths with her and something happens that neither of them expected.

I think when we’re trusting God to lead and guide us that sometimes His direction comes in unexpected ways. But if we recall His faithfulness, then it gives us hope that even though the unknown might be scary God will still be with us every step of the way.

So really, this book is the result of some wrangling with my faith and in my soul as I look to God for direction for the future, especially with my writing. God has proved Himself faithful in the past, so I have hope-filled confidence for the present and the future. It’s a message I hope all readers will be encouraged and comforted by. Even though there will be hardships in our life, something I explored more in Dusk’s Darkest Shores and Midnight’s Budding Morrow, there is a dawn of hope and promise on the horizon. So just like Theodosia and Daniel, I am trusting God and daring to step in untrodden ways. (And if you want to see what that means for my writing, then subscribe to my newsletter here https://www.carolynmillerauthor.com/connect)

I hope people read Dawn’s Untrodden Green and feel encouraged and strengthened to trust that God is always working for our good, that He’s leading us and shaping us to be people He wants us to be. I know I want to be someone who always trusts Him, whether that is through challenges, disappointments and hardships or through the dull drudgery and monotony of the mundane, and follow Him into the future. Because God knows exactly what possibilities, purpose and promise await us just around the corner.

I hope you’re blessed as you read Dawn’s Untrodden Green!
