Kelsea and Will’s Grocery Lists

by Tanya Agler, author of Caught By the Cowgirl

Kelsea Carruthers’ Grocery List

  • Lasagna noodles and all the fixings
  • Protein powder, spinach, pineapple, mango, banana
  • Sprinkles, cream cheese, cocoa powder, buttermilk, red food coloring, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, butter, eggs, vanilla
  • A Colorado jacket or sweatshirt
  • Watermelon

Hi, everyone! I’m Kelsea, currently on a business trip for my company, EverWind. I work with ranchers to acquire land for wind turbines, and I received a list of contacts, including one for Barry Sullivan. It turns out Mr. Sullivan isn’t really the owner of the Silver Horseshoe. That honor belongs to his nephew, Will, who is the most exasperating but handsome man I’ve ever met. So far I’ve only been in Violet Ridge, Colorado, for a couple of days, but I’m having the best time. I’m trying so many new foods and meeting some wonderful people, including Regina Dunne, who owns the local feed and seed. Don’t tell anyone, but I think she and Barry have a thing for each other.

Oh, my grocery list? You’re wondering why I picked those items? I thought you’d never ask! Lasagna is one of my specialties, along with cornbread, but I never mix the two at the same meal. I learned how to cook lasagna when I worked as a waitress at an Italian restaurant in my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. I think that was four jobs ago. Nope, five, but I can’t keep track of all of my former occupations! I’ve gone through so many employers, but none of my layoffs are my fault, not really. And I need to make a good impression with EverWind because my neurosurgeon father pulled strings with his college roommate to get me this job. He encourages me to eat a healthy breakfast every morning, and I’m always running late so I found a green smoothie recipe, that’s so yummy. Why make something nutritious boring, right? Since I ate something that’s good for me, I’ll bake Barry and Will some of my late grandmother’s red velvet cupcakes. I always decorate them with sprinkles. I also put them on my smoothie, but don’t tell my dad. Sprinkles really make everything taste better!

I’m hoping the grocery store sells clothing, too. I left my sweater at the airport, and Will keeps lending me his jackets. It’s not my fault I misplace them. Well, not really!

And Will owns the sweetest pair of goats. I just love their names, Snow and Flake! How cute is that. They absolutely adore watermelon, and I want to stay on their good side. Now, if I can only get on Will’s good side, everything will just about be perfect

Will’s Grocery List

  • Garlic Salt
  • Beef Jerky
  • Apples
  • Peppermints
  • Count Chocula cereal

My grocery list? I need garlic salt to season my steak. Beef jerky holds up well on long horse rides, and my horse, Domino, loves apples and peppermints.

Okay, the cereal is for me. Don’t tell anyone that’s my guilty pleasure food. Especially Kelsea Carruthers. She’d say it’s wonderful and act thrilled that I entrusted her with some small detail about my life, but she’s only here for a short time. She’ll leave soon enough and then, once again, I’ll have to make sure my uncle Barry doesn’t chase after the next get-rich-quick scheme. He travels fastest who travels alone.

A quick word from Tanya Agler: A huge thank you to Reading Is My SuperPower for hosting me today. Thinking of Will and Kelsea’s grocery list was so much fun, almost as fun as writing their story. I hope you enjoy Caught by the Cowgirl!

Looking at these lists, now I am hungry for lasagna and red velvet cupcakes! You can tell a lot about a person from their grocery lists. Sounds like a fun book!

  2. Roxanne C.

The lasagna and watermelon (for people, though) sound good. I had to laugh when I saw Count Chocula cereal on Will’s list. I remember when my sons loved that cereal,
