Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Laurie: I wish I could fly, though I’m afraid of heights so I’d need to work up the courage to fly too far off the ground.
Carrie: flying would make travel so much faster … but I fear I’d have the same problem as you.
Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.
Laurie: I just finished Their Sweet Coastal Reunion by Kaylie Newell and The Wedding Dress Sewing Circle by Jennifer Ryan. Both highly recommended!
Carrie: ooo yay!
Q: Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?
Laurie: I’m most comfortable writing in bed. It’s one of the few spaces in my house I find peace and quiet.
Carrie: that’s my favorite place to read 🙂
Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing Safeguarding the Witness, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?
Laurie: Before writing suspense, I tended to let the story guide the plot as I wrote. Now, I’m wrangling complex suspense and mystery plots and I need to have the plot well thought out or the first draft of the story makes no sense.
Carrie: ahh that’s a good point. I hadn’t thought of it like that.
Q: What is something God taught you while you wrote Safeguarding the Witness?
Laurie: To be gracious with our forgiveness. The heroine in Safeguarding the Witness had every reason not to trust her father and the hero. Using God’s example of forgiveness, she discovers a way to forgive those who wronged her, which then blesses her life with love.
Carrie: forgiveness is so tough, but so rewarding.
