Love blossoms for a Lady Gardener when she robs a Duke. . . and then steals his heart.
Alexandra Grantham becomes Lady Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to provide for the local farm workers in the district. However, when her new neighbor, Mr. Robert Chanderly, unmasks her, Alexandra cannot hide her horror as he has it within his power to ruin her reputation. But, instead of blighting her social chances when they arrive in London, Robert decides to bring Alexandra into high fashion, and she effectively takes the ton by storm.
Enemies abound in the Capital, however, causing trouble for Alexandra at every turn. So when an adversary threatens to reveal Alexandra’s dangerous secret, Robert must do everything within his power to defend the honor of the woman he loves—or lose the only lady he’s ever wished to make his wife.

Hi Alissa! Welcome to the blog!
Alissa: Dogs… I’m allergic to both, but at least I can wash my dog (which helps!)
Carrie: aww being allergic to dogs is sad, but I’m glad you’ve found a way around it!
Alissa: Coffee – but not in the afternoon, otherwise I won’t sleep.
Carrie: ah yes, the great caffeine conundrum.
Alissa: Music – far more relaxing. I’m more of a visual person when it comes to books.
Carrie: same!
Alissa: Definitely over! Under makes me anxious.
Carrie: haha! We definitely don’t want to be anxious about toilet paper – learned that in 2020 lol
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Alissa: I used to think I wasn’t much of a multi-tasker, but balancing my writing career and my family responsibilities has made me develop this superpower that most women have, I imagine!
Carrie: that’s awesome!
Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
Alissa: I love browsing in the history non-fiction section. I enjoy researching any aspect of Regency England, and second-hand bookshops are my favorite type of bookshop. You never know what you’re going to stumble across!
Carrie: i adore second-hand bookshops!
Q: Any snacks/beverages that are a must when you sit down to write?
Alissa: I drink sparkling water and coffee while I write and snack on marmalade and whole wheat toast (with grated cheese so that my blood sugar doesn’t drop too rapidly!).
Carrie: yum!
Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing The Duke and the Lady Gardener, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?
Alissa: I usually have a general outline (about a page long) before I start a book. I often see the beginning and ending quite clearly. It’s just the pesky middle that I have to figure out. Usually, I go on a meandering path dictated by the quirks of my characters. It’s quite an adventure at times!
Carrie: haha i bet!
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes from The Duke and the Lady Gardener & why do you love it?
Alissa: “Robert felt his conscience prick. Although he ensured his laborers were well paid, he had not given much thought to the loss of dignity the poor had suffered due to being forced to give up their traditional rights to graze their livestock on common land. Instead, he had viewed it as a necessary evil to accomplish a greater good. But Miss Grantham saw beyond the improving policies to the suffering of the people. Something stirred within him, but he did not care to examine it too closely.”
I love this quote as it sums up the message behind my book and shows Alexandra, my heroine’s motivations, and the effect her sincere desire to help the poor has on the hero, Robert.
Carrie: ooo i love that!
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Alissa: The Duke and the Lady Gardener is the first book in The Grantham Girls series about three scientifically inclined sisters. The next book in my series is The Baron and the Lady Chemist, which releases in August 2023, and the third book is The Lord and the Lady Astronomer, which will be released in November 2023.
Alissa Baxter wrote her first Regency romance during her long university holidays. After travelling the world, she settled down to write her second Regency novel, which was inspired by her time living on a country estate in England. Alissa then published two chick lit novels, The Truth About Clicking Send and Receive(previously published as Send and Receive) and The Truth About Cats and Bees (previously published as The Blog Affair).
Many years later, Alissa returned to her favorite era. She writes Regency romances that feature women in trend-setting roles who fall in love with men who embrace their trailblazing ways… at least eventually. Alissa currently lives in Johannesburg with her husband and two sons.
