Hi everyone! I’m so happy to participate in this Road Trip Reads giveaway. The Beach Reads Bookshop is set in Maryland, and I have taken some glorious trips to the Chesapeake Bay to research the books (there’s actually a trilogy—The Forever Farmhouse, The Bluebird Bakery, and The Beach Reads Bookshop).

Come along and join the tour!

First up: food! Maryland is known for fresh crab and for a wonderful dessert called Smith Island Cake. I highly recommend both! And both appear in my Hometown Brothers trilogy.

Another important aspect of Maryland life is boating. The Beach Reads Bookshop and the rest of the trilogy take place on a fictional island in the Chesapeake Bay, accessible only by boat. I enjoyed looking at all types of boats as I did my research. Here’s a secret, though: I tend to get seasick, so most of my boat research is done close to shore.

Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay, are home to some of the most glorious sunsets on the planet, as well as plenty of sparsely-populated areas where it’s safe to build a bonfire.

The area is rich in history. I recommend spending an afternoon at the museum devoted to Harriet Tubman and her courageous life.

It’s also interesting, though sad, to look at the many old cemeteries on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Like the rest of the area, especially the islands, significant ground is lost every year to erosion and rising waters.

Maryland is a place for love, too! If you visit Easton during the Christmas season, make sure to take a romantic carriage ride.
