The following is a blurb for the first book in The Victory Series, “Hope Doesn’t Disappoint” (Elk Lake Publishing Inc., 2022).
Cassie Bailey has everything – a great husband, two beautiful daughters, a lovely home and a challenging job. She never planned to become addicted to gambling. Somehow, it snuck up on her unawares.
Now, because of her gambling, the bank has foreclosed on the family’s home, she’s lost her job, and her husband has taken the two girls and gone to live with his parents. Rather than visit shelters, Cassie chooses to live in her car.
When she ends up in jail because of unpaid parking tickets, she knows she’s near the bottom. Fortunately for her, an unexpected source pays her tickets on the condition she get professional help to quit gambling.
Although Cassie attends a therapy group for addicted gamblers, she still can’t kick the habit. When she gambles away money for her first and last month’s rent, she knows her husband won’t allow her to reunite with him and their girls. On a dark street in the center of town, she attempts suicide.
Through the lives of three people, Cassie is brought to the only One who removes burdens, destroys yokes, and provides a hope that doesn’t disappoint.
The last sentence of this blurb is one of the reasons I write my books. My deepest desire is for lives to come to know the love, forgiveness, and deliverance Jesus has provided for us through His death and resurrection. I believe the Lord’s return is imminent and the world must hear the Good News. If one of my books brings one soul to Jesus, the effort has been worth it.
The second reason I write is so born-again believers will know that God is a covenant-keeping God Whose promises we can stand on, even when Satan and circumstances are yelling in our ears that God is not going to come through ‘this time’. “So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them” (Isaiah 55:11 MSG).
When we face adverse circumstances, we are the deciding witness. The doctor’s report of ill health is fact, but God’s Word that “…he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5 NIV) is the truth.
When we back off from God’s Word, we allow Satan to steal our victory – our health, finances, relationships. Satan can’t create anything. Whatever he has is what he’s stolen from us. We can’t allow that to happen. “Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet” (Ephesians 6:13 MSG).
As born-again believers who choose to stand on God’s Word in the face of contrary reports and the lies of Satan, when all is said and done, we will still be standing. “When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable” (Hebrews 6:18 MSG).
