Happy Friday & welcome to the First Line Friday link-up! It’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. Today I’m featuring the first line of To Calm a Storm by Heather Day Gilbert & Jen Cudmore. I love Heather’s books but I haven’t read any of her Viking books yet – i clearly need to correct that asap!

and the first line is…

She had arrived in her homeland at last.

Get swept up in an enthralling saga featuring women who rule the hearts of Viking men.

For years, Kadhrin has anticipated marrying her betrothed, Vikarr, who is now second in command only to the king. As she settles into married life, she becomes increasingly convinced that her husband would make a far better ruler than his distracted cousin, and she urges him to heed advisors calling for an overthrow.

Vikarr is honored to marry such a noble bride, but he hasn’t bargained for Kadhrin’s boldness. Although pleased by the growing passion between them, he struggles to understand her motivations. As rumors of an insurrection build, Vikarr is torn between the captivating woman who has laid claim to his heart, his loyalty to his king, and his growing desire to seize the kingship so he can unify his country against looming threats.

Caught up in a web of political intrigue and personal betrayal, Kadhrin and Vikarr must choose not only which war to wage, but also which side to stand on, even if it means sacrificing everything they hold dear.

Written by award-winning author Heather Day Gilbert and fresh voice Jen Cudmore, this thrilling Viking-era historical is the second novel in the Tavland Vikings series.

I have an ARC of Lynette Eason’s book Countdown. “Flight paramedic Raina Price looked out the window of the chopper and pointed.”

  2. Gloria A

I need to check the Viking series out as well. Love the cover.
I just finished Wedding at Sea by Melissa Tagg. The first line is:
The houseboat bobbed on choppy waters, little more than an inky shadow against the faintest shards of moonlight.

  3. Kay Garrett

Park ranger Hazel Hoyt adjusted her duty belt and radio before stepping onto the porch of her father’s ranch just outside Micmore National Park, Alberta.
MOUNTAIN ABDUCTION RESCUE by Darlene L. Turner

  4. Death by Demo by Callie Carpenter

“The house was everything she’d thought it would be. It was everything she’d remembered, everything she’d been dreaming about. And it was all bad.”

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone ☕📚☀️💜😊

  5. I’m really interested in a viking setting – may need to look for this one! I’m late visiting First Lines/56 this time around but I hope you’re having a good reading week!
