Jerusha: Both! Apples are much easier to prepare, so I have them more often, especially on grilled sandwiches. But oranges are such a super sweet, special treat.
Carrie: oooo apples on grilled cheese sounds yummy!
Jerusha: Neither! I want to love coffee, but I just can’t stand the bitterness, even with loads of sugar or other things added. I’m really a water girl myself. 😊
Carrie: I want to love both too – but I like neither lol
Jerusha: Wow, this question takes me back. In my family as a child, my older siblings made a big deal about the competition between Coke and Pepsi. I was always in the Coke camp myself, which was not a popular choice! 😊
Carrie: i am firmly in the Coke camp too. Pepsi is never okay. lol
Jerusha: M&Ms! Both are yummy, but I love some chocolate with my sweets.
Carrie: yum!
Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?
Jerusha: Kayla O’Brian from the series of that name by Hilda Stahl. She was so courageous and spirited!
Carrie: how have i never heard of this series?!?
Q: Do you have any strange writing habits/quirks? Any snacks/beverages that are a must when you sit down to write?
Jerusha: Chocolate is always a must! And then there’s my mug of hot water. I guess that counts as a strange quirk, too. 😉
Carrie: yes i would say that counts haha! 😉
Q: Do you have the whole plot outlined before you start writing, or do you let the characters dictate what comes next?
Jerusha: I’ve found outlining first allows me to write faster without needing to rewrite. But my outline starts with digging deep into my characters first. Their spiritual and emotional journeys always direct where my story needs to go.
Carrie: I love that approach!
Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Unseen Danger?
Jerusha: I’m always thinking ahead to the next books in my series, so I love to put in little hints about characters who will be the focus of future installments. Unseen Danger features several such elements that likely won’t stand out to readers now but lay the groundwork for the stories to come.
Carrie: that’s always fun as a reader to discover things like that 🙂
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Unseen Danger?
Jerusha: That fear can be defeated! Our culture teaches us so many lies about fear—calling it a good and natural thing, even a helpful tool. But the Bible tells us the opposite—that the fear that haunts so many of us, from anxiety and worry to trauma-induced terror, is an evil that we are to fight and defeat through the power of Jesus Christ.
So many of us suffer under fear’s grip, being controlled and weighed down by it every day. But we don’t have to live like that. God offers us freedom from fear through faith in Him. As they read Nevaeh’s story, I hope readers will be armed with the truth and encouraged to battle their own fear!
