What Writing Books Means to Me

by MaryAnn Diorio, PhD, MFA, author of The Captain and Mrs. Vye

Writing novels is my passion. I write stories because stories have the power to transform the human heart. When we read a story, we are transported to another world. We become the main character. Her problems become our own. In the process of observing how the main character overcomes her problems, we learn how to overcome our own. And as we overcome our own problems, we are transformed.

One of my greatest joys as a writer is to hear from a reader who says that my story restored her hope, or my story gave her the solution to a problem, or my story set her free from a lie she had believed all of her life. That’s what story does. That is the power of story.

So, I invite you to read stories. Stories that deal with the tough issues of life. Stories that make you laugh. Stories that give you hope.

I also invite you to read my stories. My latest novel is titled The Captain and Mrs. Vye. This novel is Book One in my series titled The Wives of Old Cape May. It is the story of a nineteenth-century, middle-aged widow whose late husband has left her destitute. Perhaps the way she overcame her plight will encourage you to overcome an impossible situation you may be facing.

I do hope you will enter the drawing for a free ebook copy of The Captain and Mrs. Vye. I trust that it will entertain you, inspire you, and even transform you.

I grew up in Philly so yes, I’ve been to NJ countless of times. We always went to the Jersey shore every summer.

    • How cool that you grew up in Philly, Faith. I am originally from PA and grew up right near Valley Forge. Now I live right over the bridge from Philly. Yes, there’s no summer without the Jersey shore
