Happy Friday & welcome to the First Line Friday link-up! It’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. Today I’m featuring the first line of To Stand in the Breach by Danielle Grandinetti! I’ve gotten to know Danielle since she’s been a host for JustRead Tours & also an author whose books we’ve toured, and she’s just delightful! So I’m super excited that she is one of the participating authors at the inaugural JustRead Rendezvous reader event in November. Only a month left to register – are you coming??!! I can’t wait to see you!

To Stand in the Breach by Danielle Grandinetti

and the first line is…

He found her.

In this page-turning tale of loyalty and danger, visit small-town Wisconsin during the Dairy Strikes of the Great Depression. A sibling’s-best-friend inspirational romance.

She came to America to escape a workhouse prison, but will the cost of freedom be too high a price to pay?

1933, Wisconsin — Large animal veterinarian Katy Wells takes her patients’ welfare personally, so it’s no surprise when she stands up to angry farmers planning a milk strike or takes in an injured draft horse to save its life.

But after a visitor from the past discovers her location and reveals a threat, she must choose between her work and her freedom, and whether to trust a man to keep her safe.

I am reading Amish Christmas Kinner by Lenora Worth, Rachel J Good, and Kelly Long. The first line of Christmas Eve Baby by Lenora Worth is:
    Christmas Eve
    Shadow Lake Inn
    Pennsylvania
The winter wind howled and moaned, causing Colette King Mueller to pull her shawl closer as she stared out the front windows of Shadow Lake Inn.

  2. I can’t stop there after your opening. I need to know if her being found is a good thing or a bad thing. Since it’s the beginning of the book, I’m assuming it’s a bad thing.

  3. I’m currently reading The Love Script by Toni Shiloh. It’s really cute!
“The wind whipped through the car’s sunroof, the sound competing with a serenade by H.E.R. on the R&B station as I drove down Coldwater Canyon.”
I hope you have a great weekend! 😀❤️📚
