“A warm and witty tale that will grab you by the heart!”–DENISE HUNTER, bestselling author of the Riverbend Romance series

Samuel was back. It seemed unfair to be blindsided. And in church no less. Shouldn’t there be a commandment about that? Thou shalt not step foot inside thy ex’s place of worship.

Julia Monroe has just turned forty and has high hopes for a fresh start after the last decade of her life abruptly left her a young widow and a single mom. With both her boys off to college, she can finally focus on expanding her New Orleans-based cleaning business. Julia is ready for new beginnings–but God has other plans. Samuel Reed, the ruggedly handsome Green Beret who shattered her heart over twenty years ago, has returned to town and is the kind of distraction she never saw coming.

After their first interaction in years leaves her mind spinning and her emotions out of control, Julia knows she needs to avoid him if she wants any chance of preventing history from repeating itself, but her meddling best friend keeps throwing them together. And now it seems inevitable that the man who was hard to forget might just be impossible to resist.

“Millet has written an achingly sweet story of second chances and the beauty of how forgiveness creates freedom and joy.”–PEPPER BASHAM, award-winning author of Authentically, Izzy

“I loved Rebekah’s kind and funny voice and taking an imaginary getaway to New Orleans.”–BECKY WADE, Christy Hall of Fame author

Hi Rebekah! Welcome to the blog!

Rebekah: Winter! Our winters in New Orleans are mild and give us a respite from the smothering heat. As a bonus, it’s a break from keeping an eye on hurricanes.

Carrie: yes! Even if I loved winter for no other reason, i would love it for the break from smothering heat.

Rebekah: Dogs all the way. My terrier-mix, Patch, agrees. She gives four paws up on my answer.

Carrie: I’m high-fiving one of those paws because I completely agree 🙂

Rebekah: Sandwich. Especially if it’s a roast beef po-boy. There’s nothing like crispy Leidenheimer French bread (a local treasure), filled with roast debris and dripping with brown gravy.

Carrie: I don’t even like po-boys but I’m drooling a little over that bread.

Rebekah: This is a tough one! But I’ll go with eBook. I can adjust the font size, and it reads easier in bed.

Carrie: agreed! I’ve been spoiled by ebooks lol

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Rebekah: Well, I do have the very real superpower of killing every plant placed within my care. But if I could have another one, I’d love to have super-speed when it comes to cleaning my house and washing dishes.

Carrie: girl… I have the same plant-killing superpower (though I’m ecstatic that I’ve managed to keep a peace lily alive for almost two years).

Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?

Rebekah: The bathroom, Lol! I’m over forty and have a bladder that’s been tortured by two babies. But after that I’m heading straight for the Christian Fiction section.

Carrie: hahaha those are my first two stops too

Q: Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

Rebekah: A few years ago I was waiting in a car line to pick my son up from school when a tornado warning was issued. The principal came out and offered for the parents who were outside to ride the weather out in the gym. That was great . . . except I was still in my pajamas. I’d been home that day in a writing bubble, and hadn’t bothered getting dressed. I was in a predicament! Clips from different tornado-themed movies spun through my head, and all of them had been cautionary tales about not staying in a vehicle during a tornado. So I hightailed it into the gym, and rode out the storm in safety, and embarrassment.

Carrie: LOL oh no! I can relate to this too. Blogging lends itself to staying in pjs – we are definitely kindred spirits.

Q: What surprised you about Julia Monroe Begins Again or your characters as you wrote their story?

Rebekah: As I was writing this book, I was nervous that the faith element was too flimsy. But as I read all the way through it the first time, I was amazed to see all the places God had worked His way in.

Carrie: I love how He does that – in fiction AND in real life ♥

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Julia Monroe Begins Again?

Rebekah: Other than smiles and being entertained, I hope readers will come away with the same message God brought to me while writing this book. There’s no request too small or big to bring to Him in prayer. He cares about every single aspect of our lives.

Carrie: so thankful for that!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Rebekah: Thank YOU and your wonderful readers for spending some time with me! Coming up next is launching Julia Monroe Begins Again into the world, and also working on the next book in the series.

I like that Julia is forty, which is older than the typical main character in a contemporary romance novel. It’s also fun to discover new authors.

    • Hi there, Pam! I’m so glad you like that Julia is forty! It was a lot of fun to write her character and the things she experiences at her age. Best wishes with the giveaway.

A story of second chances and holding out hope sounds like something I would enjoy reading. Eyecatching cover as well.

Anyone that is honest enough to say that the first place they head when they enter a bookstore is the bathroom is tops in my book and worth reading. Love that answer!

  7. Sylvia M.

I love the New Orleans setting (been there) and that the hero and heroine are older. That is so refreshing and identifiable to me at my age.

    • Hi Sylvia! I’m so glad the older characters appeal to you. Romance is still happening no matter what age we are. I hope your visit to New Orleans was a good one.

  8. Teri DiVincenzo

The whole concept of starting over and reinventing yourself has so much appeal! I’ve done that before too, and it’s scary and wonderful.
