Crossroads JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Crossroads by C.C. Warrens, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours! I’m delighted to have C.C. on the blog today to chat about her new book!

CROSSROADS by C.C. Warrens
SERIES: A Holly Novel #5
GENRE: Suspense (Christian)
RELEASE DATE: October 27, 2023
PAGES: 433

Run and don’t look back.
I’ll find you when it’s safe.

Those were the last words Holly whispered to her six year old foster sister before the little girl fled into the trees and disappeared from existence.

Fifteen years later, Cassandra Ward is still missing.

Holly is haunted by the possibility that she sent her foster sister running from one monster and into the clutches of another. How else could a child vanish without a trace?

Determined to find her, Holly sifts through her own dark memories for clues, revisits her past, and chases a lead across the country with Jordan by her side. But the search for Cassie takes a dangerous turn when an altercation in the mountains leaves them stranded, cut off from the outside world, and running for their lives.

Lovers of books by Lynette Eason, Terri Blackstock, and Natalie Walters will enjoy this latest thrilling installment of The Holly Novels, and might even stay up all night reading.

CC Warrens interview

Hi C.C.! Welcome to the blog!

C.C.: Apples! Because I’m addicted to apple crisp and apple pie. Nothing beats either fall treat.

Carrie: yes! And now my mouth is watering lol!

C.C.: Tea. Iced tea is my favorite,  but I’m all for hot tea. My favorite right now is roasted chicory blended with milk and honey to make a “latte.”

Carrie: I so badly wish I liked either coffee or tea because even at 40-something I don’t feel quite grown-up since I don’t drink at least one of them on a regular basis lol

C.C.: Give me the stories. I love enjoying an audiobook while going for a walk, getting chores done, or … okay, let’s be real—I usually listen to them while being a couch potato.

Carrie: Sadly my mind wanders (unless it’s the Harry Potter audiobooks by Jim Dale lol), but I could get so much more reading done if I could just pay attention to audiobooks.

C.C.: Print. Not only do I enjoy the feel of a book in my hands, but they look pretty on my bookshelf too.

Carrie: nothing beats a bookshelf full of pretty books!

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

C.C.: Ha! Okay, oddly enough, I think about this more than expected, and it’s a toss up between two. I don’t travel well but I want to see the world, so teleportation would be fantastic. But I also adore animals and wish I could be like Dr. Dolittle and communicate with them.

Carrie: ooo i like both of those! Can I share them?

Q: Which books are “on your nightstand”?

C.C.: The Haunting of Aveline Jones by Phil Hickes and Break of Day by Colleen Coble.

Carrie: Colleen’s is on mine too – and that other title sounds intriguing! Will have to look it up 🙂

Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?

C.C.: She’s mostly nice, but sometimes she’s really controlling. She doesn’t let me do things I want to do, and she seems to think she knows more than I do about my life. I don’t think that’s possible. I’m the one in dire situations while she sprawls in a chair, sips tea, and stares at her computer all day. I mean, sometimes she gets up to eat some cheese.

Carrie: LOL!

Q: Which of your main characters in Crossroads is most like you?

C.C.: I would say Holly is most like me in personality. Physically, we diverge quite a bit, but we’re both quirky, would drink hot chocolate every day if possible, mess up idioms because they don’t make sense to us, hate brown and yellow, struggle with social awkwardness, and are prone to finding ourselves in unexpected and bizarre situations.

Carrie: Daily hot chocolate is something I can totally get behind!

Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in your books and, specifically, in Crossroads?

C.C.: Oh, so many little things! Some spooky real-life parallels (like the time a stranger tried to kidnap me when I was 5, which made it into book 4 of the Holly Novels series) and my husband appears or is mentioned in every Holly Novel. Our pizza restaurant appears in one of the books, too. For Crossroads, I added a funny moment with left and right socks because in college, I bought some socks that were labeled left and right on the bottoms. A few of my readers make guest appearances as well.

Carrie: I am stuck back on the part where you were almost kidnapped at age 5! wow!

Q: What is one of your favorite quotes from Crossroads & why do you love it?

C.C.: “You get to decide whose opinion matters to you. A stranger, a person whose hateful heart flows out of their mouth with every word, loved ones. Everyone has something to say, but you have the power to choose whether or not it’s important enough to pack in your suitcase and carry with you for the rest of your life.”

Words can cut deep, and I’m sure we’ve all crossed paths with someone who makes a hobby out of tearing others down with insults and criticism. Faced with that, we have to decide whether to let those words impact our life or roll off us with the understanding that this person’s opinion is just that—an opinion. It isn’t the truth, and they don’t get to dictate our identity or self-perception.

Carrie: i love that! yes!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

C.C.: My first kid’s book in the Mischief, Mysteries, & Marshmallows series is currently with the editor, and I’m excited to send those out before Christmas. My next writing project is the second book in the Cherry Creek Mysteries. I haven’t announced the title yet, but it will be following Noelle, Derek, and Skyler from Firefly Diaries.

Carrie: Oh! Yay!! I’m so glad there’s another book after Firefly Diaries! And that children’s book title is delightful 🙂

C.C. Warrens

Jesus and laughter have brought C.C. Warrens through some very difficult times in life, and she weaves both into every story she writes, creating a world of breath-stealing intensity, laugh-out-loud humor, and a sparkle of hope. Writing has been a slowly blossoming dream inside her for most of her life until one day it spilled out onto the pages that would become her first published book.

If she’s not writing, she’s attempting to bake something—however catastrophic that might be—or she’s enjoying the beauty of the outdoors with her husband. One of the many things she’s learned since she started this journey is that the best way to write a book is to go on a long stroll with her husband. That is when the characters—from their backgrounds to the moments that make them laugh or bubble over with anger—come to life.

  1. It sounds really interesting!
I love the foster care aspect, that’s a big thing for me.

I tried logging into the giveaway, but I received this message:

    Google Authentication Failed
Sorry, we could not authenticate with Google. We received the message:
    ActionController: InvalidAuthenticityToken

I tried clicking the button that says try again, and then it loads into the entries for a split second, then it goes away and goes back to the normal logging in, info part. Do you know what this would happen? I tried going to the Gleam site and looking for a reason why it would do this, but no luck.

(Aldo, I did not mean to, but I posted this comment onto the Just Read Tours site by accident:

    • It seems to be working now!
Not exactly sure what did it.
I have the 2nd book in the Break of Day series on my “nightstand” (if being a digital book on my phone, that is laying on my nightstand counts😂)
I love print books the most, but as I am getting older and space is more limited, I find myself drawn more towards digital books😂

  2. Janice Moore

The book sounds wonderful! I love the quote about being able to select whose opinion you listen to! That’s quite profound!

  3. Audrey Stewart

I have ordered the Seeking Justice book series by C.C. Warrens from my local library. It’s less than a mile from my house. My husband and I are both big readers.

    • Mary McNally

I LOVE the HOLLY series. But I’m sad it’s finished. There’s actually more to write about! How does Cassie make out in the big city? Does Holly marry Jordan? What does her foster father want with Holly and does he become a threat? And how sweet it would be for Marx to enjoy grandchildren!
