Every year, stores begin to stock Christmas goods in early fall. Lights and wrapping paper are displayed right next to the Halloween candy. Near where I live, there’s a little town that has the entire Main Street lit up two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Now, I love Christmas. I break out the Christmas music right Thanksgiving. And the lights and greenery give me a warm feeling inside. However, I do prefer to wait to celebrate.

For me, and for many Christians around the world, before Christmas we have Advent. This is a time of waiting. We are waiting for the coming of our Savior. Waiting and preparing our hearts and our homes to receive Him. So, the first Sunday of Advent, a simple wreath with four candles is set on our dining room table.

Slowly, we begin to decorate. A few items at a time. Next week, we will put up the tree, and the stockings. We will put out the Nativity scene. At our house, we have Mary and Joseph and the shepherds out. We will put Jesus out Christmas Eve. The three wiseman begin their “journey” on the other end of the house around Christmas Eve. They won’t arrive until we celebrate Epiphany around January 6th.

My family has a second tradition at Christmas. When my children were small, my husband and I worried that they would become too focused on themselves and what they wanted. So, we decided to make a point of buying gifts each year for a baby or child who had nothing and donating. Each of our children had to find a gift for the baby. It became such a wonderful part of our Christmas celebrations that they began to ask when we were going shopping for the baby each year.

Now that my children are older and beginning their own traditions with their families, it leaves a warm feeling inside knowing that they all recognize Jesus and His love as the focus of Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I’m drawn to ‘Hunted at Christmas’ by Dana R. Lynn because of its thrilling blend of suspense and holiday drama. The contrast between the festive season and the intensity of a suspenseful storyline creates a captivating reading experience. I’m especially interested in how Lynn weaves elements of danger and intrigue into a time that’s traditionally about peace and joy. The idea of characters navigating unexpected challenges and possibly finding strength and hope in the midst of a crisis is both intriguing and inspiring. The book promises to be an exciting and emotionally engaging read, perfect for those long, cozy winter nights!
