katy lee’s favorite Christmas movie

by Katy Lee, co-author of K-9 National Park Defenders

Greetings, Readers! I’m Katy Lee, author of this month’s Yuletide Ransom, a Christmas novella that is part of the PNK9 series K-9 National Park Defenders Christmas novellas. I’m thrilled to be here with you today to tell you about one of my favorite Christmas movies.

“While You Were Sleeping” is a Christmas Romantic Comedy that weaves together a tangled love story about destiny, and I love it. Released in 1995, the film stars Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. The story follows Lucy Moderatz, a lonely token fare collector for the Chicago Transit Authority. She believes herself to be in love with a handsome businessman who comes through her tollbooth every morning. Lucy’s life takes an unexpected turn when this businessman is pushed onto the tracks and is left unconscious. She saves Peter Callaghan, played by Peter Gallagher, but he slips into a coma and Lucy finds herself mistaken for his fiancée by the hospital staff. When the Callaghan family arrives at the hospital, they believe Lucy is their son’s fiancée and welcome her into their lives with open arms.

As Lucy becomes entwined with the Callaghan family and finds a place to belong, her dreams of marrying Peter seem to be coming true, even if the man is asleep! The story takes place during the Christmas season, emphasizing themes of joy and love and family, but also the results of weaving a tangled “garland” of lies. Lucy meets Peter’s brother Jack, and finds herself really with him, but he’s the wrong Callaghan. She can’t tell the truth or lose the family she’s come to love and belong with.

I won’t spoil the rest of the movie for you in case you haven’t seen it yet. And if not, why not? It’s such a cute movie with the message about how life doesn’t turn out the way we plan. Life requires faith to believe that God has better plans for us.

As a writer, I will add how this movie broke the romance rules by having Lucy meet Peter before Jack! We are always told to be sure to have our heroine meet the “right” guy first, but that doesn’t happen in “While You Were Sleeping.” I guess that’s why Peter had to be asleep for most of the movie. The viewer had to “forget” about him so Jack would stand a chance.

Anyway, it worked out beautifully. Jack and Lucy’s love story was complete with a touch of Christmas magic woven in. Go watch it!

I wish you all love and joy this Christmas as well!

sharee stover’s favorite Christmas movie

by Sharee Stover, co-author of K-9 National Park Defenders

Hi friends! Sharee Stover here, and I’m the author of Holiday Rescue Countdown the second novella in the K-9 National Park Defenders book. My family is in the thick of Christmas preparations and one of the ways we jump into the fun is watching Christmas movies. There are so many wonderful films, and I have several favorites. The romance author in me especially likes The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jack Black, but my all-time very favorite movie is Elf. I know, I know. If you’re like my eldest daughter, you’re groaning, but give me a chance to defend the wonderfulness that is Elf.

I have a very dry sense of humor, so it takes a lot to really make me laugh. Every year, Will Farrell provides that giggle. But the story itself offers powerful lessons regarding the beauty of seeing the best in people, the strength of family, and the influence good can have in the world. Buddy the Elf is an innocent minded individual. He’s gentle and pursues joy in everything he sees and does. Even when people are unkind to him, he snaps right back to his happy self and offers kindness. And he gets his own romance!

Elf has all the elements of a great movie with romance, humor, tears, and life lessons. I don’t want to ruin the movie for you if you haven’t seen it. But Buddy is a great example of how we can overcome circumstances to find our purpose and joy in life.

Thank you for sharing your time with us! Many blessings and joy to you this Christmas and New Year.

I like the “K-9” books. I don’t have all of the books of Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit, but the more I read, the better I like it.

I generally say Miracle on 34th Street, 1947, with Maureen O’Hara, is my favorite. There are some really good Christmas movies out there so it’s hard to pick just one favorite. [However, we do NOT like Home Alone.] I do also really like The Polar Express with Tom Hanks.
A few nights ago, hubby and I watched The Christmas Chronicles (2018) with Kurt Russell. I’d forgotten all about that movie and we hadn’t seen it in some years. But I really enjoyed it.
