PUBLISHER: Scrivenings Press
RELEASE DATE: January 23, 2024

Phoebe Sinclair combines her love of flowers and teaching to nurture a cut flower business on her grandfather’s land. She has her hands full growing the farm, growing her customer base, and dealing with her growing attraction to the aloof man who volunteered to help make her farming dream come true.

Can she focus on her main job, or will a pair of yearning eyes and a hurting heart divert her worthy goals?

Heath Daniels has resigned himself to a life of singleness as he watches his siblings couple up and set wedding dates. Tracking their happiness, however, is more difficult than he expected. A real struggle, in fact.

Feeling old troubles—from the bad time when he dropped out of college to explore less-than-noble pursuits—creep back to tempt him, propelling him to volunteer for manual labor that leaves him exhausted at the end of every day—and out of trouble.

His additional hours of agri-business, however, lead to more struggles with an intriguing farmer. Does he have the strength to resist old temptations as well as a beautiful new one?

Since many of us are experiencing frigid winter weather right now, I’d like to share some pictures from a warmer season that inspired me while I wrote Forever Free.

An imagined place, Phoebe Sinclair’s farm blends images from my childhood farm, others I worked on as a teenager, and ones I researched for my new novel. Most of the pictures I’m sharing here are of flowers from my current farm, land that’s been handed down in my family for generations.

In Forever Free, Mr. Dempsey, Phoebe’s grandfather, visits his rose garden when he wants to feel close to his late wife. Here’s the rose garden my husband and I gave to each other a few years ago.

Last fall, the pink rose bush stunned me with dozens of blooms.

Phoebe and Heath spend time at Mr. Dempsey’s pond. Here’s a recent picture of our pond, the one my great grandfather dug in the 1950’s.

They also spend a lot of time planting seeds in a greenhouse. The following picture shows what the inside of their greenhouse might look like once the seeds emerge and grow.

In 2022, I participated in a subscription service like Phoebe offers her clients and enjoyed weekly bouquets from the end of February through November, a perk of living in the South. This mixed bouquet definitely made my top five list.

I hope the following pictures of some of my favorite flowers make you smile! Yes, those snapdragons are growing out of a crack between my house and our concrete pad.

Finally, Phoebe’s farm is called Honeysuckle Farm, so I’ve included a picture of honeysuckle blooms to close out this post.

Setting a story on a cut flower farm was perfect for me because I could research flowers, buy books on gardening, and surround myself with beauty while I wrote Forever Free. I love all kinds of flowers, and I’ve shared some of my favorites.

Do you have a favorite flower? Which ones do you love? Why?

  1. I find Hope’s charachter Heath to be spot on. He blamed himself for something out of his control, dealt with the shame by leaning on alcohol. It was only when he forgave himself that he was able to have an authentic relationship. Great job!

  2. Love your pics of the flowers! When we lived in East Texas, I had a rose garden–it was one of my favorites things about that house. Other than roses and glads, I can’t choose any other favorites–because I love them all! I adored Hope’s book. Definitely a keeper.

  3. Sandy Avery

This sounds like a wonderful romance story. All of the flowers are gorgeous, wish I had a green thumb!

  4. Connie Porter Saunders

Thanks for sharing the flower pictures. I’m just seeing the ground after a 6 inch snow that fell over the weekend, so I’m dreaming of flowers like the ones you’ve shown. My favorite? So many but I especially love sunflowers. They seek the sun and we all should seek the SON! Congratulations on your new book!

I am so sad to see the Daniels family story end. I’ve read all 4 of them and they are all charming. Heath is a bit of an outlier in his family and we finally get the back story. Forever Free is the final book in the series but they definitely can stand alone!

  6. Janice Moore

I would love reading this story with the flower elements! I enjoy flowers, and my favorite is the English bluebells. They are pretty, can grow in sun or shade, bloom yearly and even multiply well!

  7. I can’t say I have a favorite flower. I enjoy watching the different flowers bloom throughout the growing season, which is a bit shorter in upstate New York than in North Carolina. My mother’s rosebush and some of her daffodil bulbs as well as primroses live in my flower beds now. I’ve read all four of the books from Hope’s Forever Series and have enjoyed learning about the Daniels family.

  8. Roxanne C.

Thanks to Heather for sharing the photos of all the beautiful flowers! The pink roses are stunning. The book sounds like a perfect choice for a gray winter day.

  9. Sue Parrish

This sounds like an interesting story. I love the flower pictures too. My grandmother was a loyal member of her local Garden Club. She always had beautiful flowers in her garden.

  10. Kasi Walas

I’m drawn to ‘Forever Free’ by Hope Toler Dougherty because of its promising blend of self-discovery, resilience, and the journey towards freedom. Dougherty’s knack for creating relatable characters and weaving their personal growth into an engaging narrative is something I always look forward to in her books. The story seems to offer not just an escape, but also inspiration and a deeper understanding of what it means to find one’s own path. It’s the kind of uplifting and thought-provoking read I cherish. 📚💭🌟

Looks like a really sweet series! I don’t know that I have a favorite flower, I love all of them. I lived in a desert area for years where flowers wouldn’t grow, and my green thumb isn’t green. I’ve been kind of starved for flowers for most of my life. I treated myself a few months ago, and bought a book on the meaning of flowers.

  12. Nadine

I’m always looking for titles appropriate for the Amish and Mennonite patrons at our local library. It sounds like these would be appropriate.

  13. Terrill Rosado

Many moons ago I purchased a paperback copy of Irish Encounter by Hope Toler Dougherty and loved it. I hadn’t even realized the author had released a 4-book series. This sounds like another interesting setting for a sweet romance.

  14. Duane Haddock

Can’t wait to finish this story of the Daniels family. Hope’s books have sparked in me again the joys of reading. I’ve missed escaping to other worlds. Cheers to reading!!
