But when career day turns into an actual murder, Andie finds herself on the case. And to make matters worse, the victim is her old nemesis. With the help of her hunky boyfriend, Sheriff Zac Mars, Andie dives into the investigation, determined to find the killer before they strike again.

Can she juggle her thriving outdoor business, her budding relationship with Zac, and find an elusive killer? Or will her pursuit of the truth lead her straight into the crosshairs of a ruthless killer?

Other Books In This Series

What do you do when your old nemesis is killed after writing false revenge-reviews about your touristy outdoors business? Well, you thank God that your boyfriend is the sheriff and you help him investigate. And when a cold case murder mystery gets thrown into the mix, you investigate that, too. At least you do when you’re Andie Sullivan.

The Wilderness Trap is my first introduction to Andie, her boyfriend Zac, her brother Kyle, and her BFF Vivian but I jumped in mid-series with no problems. I instantly liked Andie’s personality, even if I personally know better than to start telling elementary students about the dead bodies I’ve found haha. And I enjoyed the team dynamics, including with Zac, as they investigated the murders. Vivian and Kyle have fun banter, and Zac balances Andie well. He also respects and acknowledges her skills, which I appreciated.

The mystery is nicely layered, and I was hooked from the intriguing prologue. I love the idea of cold cases being solved, so my reader radar always goes up when that’s part of a plot – and I stayed invested from beginning to end. While I had started to piece together some of the puzzle before Andie and her crew did, I certainly didn’t have it all figured out and a couple of twists at the last minute took me by surprise.

Bottom Line: The Wilderness Trap by Jodi Linton combines engaging characters with puzzling mysteries in a quick but enjoyable read. Some of the plot elements could have been developed a little more, had the story been just a bit longer, but overall I thought it was paced well and I had fun reading it. I enjoyed meeting Andie and her crew on these pages, and I had no problems orienting myself to the series despite not having read the previous books. If you enjoy likable amateur sleuths and entertaining plots, then you’ll want to check out The Wilderness Trap and the rest of the Southwest Exposure Mysteries by Jodi Linton!

Reviewer’s Note: Readers of this blog may want to be aware that this book does contains mild cursing as well as some stronger curse words.
