Some Recent Additions to My TBR list

Happy Tuesday! Today’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is “Unread Books on My Shelves I Want to Read Soon” but ohmyword if I actually started down that rabbit hole, the post would be more appropriately titled “Top Ten Thousand Tuesday”. As it is, I really should start calling these posts “Top Ten-ish Tuesday” but 10,000 books would be a bit much to include, even for me. Anyway… I tweaked the topic just slightly again this week and decided to look at some recent additions to my TBR list. They comprise a range of genres but one thing they all have in common is that something really draws me to these particular books & makes me want to read them all ASAP!

A GAMBLE AT SUNSET by Vanessa Riley
Historical Romance/Regency era
Releases May 2024

What intrigues me:
A Regency romance with diverse and multicultural characters? And a fake relationship trope? Yes please! I’ve followed Vanessa Riley for years but have yet to read one of her books, to my shame. After meeting her in person back in January, I made sure her new book was at the top of my TBR list!

BITTER AND SWEET by Rhonda McKnight
Dual Timeline Southern Fiction
Releases June 2024

What intrigues me:
I fell in love with this author’s writing voice when I read The Thing About Home, so I’m eager to return to past & present South Carolina with her storytelling talent. Reading the blurb on Amazon already has me invested in the lives of sisters Mariah & Sabrina who are battling their own demons while trying to save the family restaurant. Not to mention the peek into the past of how the restaurant began.

A LADY OF CONSCIENCE by Mimi Matthews
Historical Romance/Victorian era
Releases July 2024

What intrigues me:
Mimi Matthews writes such exquisite romances with strong heroines & incredibly swoony heroes, so that alone zooms this one up to the top of my TBR list. But I’ve also been waiting for James’ story since I read book three in this series, so I’m positively giddy to finally see him get a happily-ever-after!

THE THIRD WIFE OF FARADAY HOUSE by B.R. Myers
Gothic Mystery
Releases August 2024

What intrigues me:
First, let me say that I haven’t read anything by this author yet so I can’t verify the content level as far as cursing or open vs closed door but this book crossed my path when I was browsing Goodreads giveaways this weekend and the title really grabbed me. Once I read the description of the book, I was completely hooked.

THE BLOOMING OF DELPHINIUM by Holly Varni
Romantic Comedy/Women’s Fiction
Releases September 2024

What intrigues me:
I giggled my way through the first book in this series and cannot wait to return to the quirky characters of Moonberry Lake! The author captures an eccentric small town so perfectly, all the way down to the newspaper snippets that had me snort-laughing.

THE CHRISTMAS CATCH by Toni Shiloh
Contemporary Holiday Romance
Releases September 2024

What intrigues me:
First, that cover – i love it so much! Second, it’s set in small town Georgia, one of my fave settings. And third, this is a re-release/re-vamp of Shiloh’s A Sidelined Christmas which happens to be one of only two Shiloh titles that I haven’t read yet. I always love this author’s characters and her warm writing voice.

A HOPE UNBURIED by Kimberley Woodhouse
Historical Romance/Suspense
Releases September 2024

What intrigues me:
I’ve been fascinated by this series’ look at the Dinosaur Wars era and the rarity of female paleontologists, plus Woodhouse’s talented combo of historical romance and layered villains. Seriously… the villains in book one and book two are so twisted!! I love it! This third book had me at “When Eliza gets the chance to dig up bones at a ranch with a dark history…”

OF GOLD AND SHADOWS by Michelle Griep
Historical Romance/Victorian era
Releases September 2024

What intrigues me:
Nobody writes Victorian intrigue like Michelle Griep, and this one looks so good! A young, female Egyptologist with a secret identity as a rescuer of black market artifacts. Oxford’s most eligible bachelor with a newly acquired collection of Egyptian pieces. An artifact with a rumored curse. Yes please! Sign me up!

BRAVE by Mesu Andrews
Historical Fiction/Biblical era
Releases October 2024

What intrigues me:
Mesu Andrews is one of the three authors of Biblical era fiction that I consistently read (I’m pretty picky), and I love that she isn’t afraid to wade into the mess that is King David’s marriages. We don’t talk about this group of women much – because of said mess – and I know Andrews will give life to their stories with her impeccable research and lots of grace.

The Burning of Rosemont Abbey by Naomi Stephens

THE BURNING OF ROSEMONT ABBEY by Naomi Stephens
Historical Mystery/1950s
Releases October 2024

What intrigues me:
The cover grabbed my attention, for starters, along with the title. But when I learned it was a Christie-esque mystery set in a 1950s British village, I knew I had to read it. I do so love a good whodunit & this one sounds so delightfully cozy and gripping!

SPECTERS IN THE GLASS HOUSE by Jaime Jo Wright
Dual Timeline Mystery/Suspense
Releases October 2024

What intrigues me:
Well, just the fact that Jaime Jo Wright wrote it is enough to intrigue me. This author writes such deliciously creepy mysteries with a connected timeline between the past & present and Scooby-Doo twists that I can never figure out ahead of time. This one looks particularly eerie with a butterfly house, Prohibition, hallucinations, and a serial killer’s unsolved murders.

ACROSS THE AGES by Gabrielle Meyer
Historical Romance/Time Crossing
Releases November 2024

What intrigues me:
I devoured book one and book two in this unique series and added book three as soon as it showed up on Goodreads (I’ll be reviewing it in a couple of weeks – eep! So excited!). So I was delighted to hear about this fourth one and will be chomping at the bit to read it. The time crossing between at least two eras – in this case 1727 and 1927 – and having to choose one to stay in permanently is so perfectly done and the stories keep me mesmerized.

THE QUEEN’S COOK by Tessa Afshar
Historical Romance/Biblical Era
Releases November 2024

What intrigues me:
Tessa Afshar is another of my fave authors of Biblical era fiction, and I am positively thrilled that we’ll be in Persia for this new series. Not only is it the author’s own home country, but the people of Persia (aka Iran) are very close to my heart – and the book of Esther is one of my favorites in Scripture. Excited to see where she takes this series!

What about you? What are some recent additions to your own TBR list? Which of the books in my post intrigue you too? What makes them intriguing?

I knew I shouldn’t have read this post, I can feel the money seeping from my wallet! LOL! And we’re trying to stick to a budget. Oh well, I’m a hopeless cause. At least 8 of these books are going to be bought. Umm, the other two I already pre-ordered! LOL!

  2. I shudder thinking about expanding my TBR list. BUT. Meez Carrie, you are corrupting me. Many of these books tempt me, but I’m most curious about Brave. I don’t read much Biblical Fiction, but Mesu has tackled quite a topic/plot.
