Ruth J Hartman interview

Please join me in welcoming author Ruth J. Hartman to the blog today to chat about her newest cozy mystery, Purrfectly Framed!

Ruth J Hartman

Ruth J. Hartman spends her days herding cats and her nights spinning mysterious tales. She, her husband, and their cats love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats sit in the people’s recliners. Not that the cats couldn’t get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else’s.

Ruth, a left-handed, cat-herding, farmhouse-dwelling writer uses her sense of humor as she writes tales of lovable, klutzy women who seem to find trouble without even trying.

Ruth’s husband and best friend, Garry, reads her manuscripts, rolls his eyes at her weird story ideas, and loves her despite her insistence all of her books have at least one cat in them. See updates about her cozy mysteries at Ruthjhartman.com.

Other Books in This Series

Hi Ruth! Welcome to the blog!

Ruth: Cats! I’ve always had them since I was little, and we have three now! All of my books have at least one cat in them.

Carrie: I am slowly coming to love cats … at least i love the two cats belonging to some of our nieces and nephews 🙂

Ruth: Pepsi. Although my husband comes from a Coke household, so we end up having to buy both kinds!

Carrie: that sounds like my husband and me – except I’m the Coke one lol

Ruth: I love both, but my sister lives in Wyoming, so I’ve gotten used to seeing the mountains when I visit her.

Carrie: those are some gorgeous mountains too!

Ruth: It’s hard to choose. I love print to be able to hold the book, but I also have lots of books on my kindle that I can download from the library. So, I guess, both!

Carrie: ‘Both’ is a completely acceptable answer because… books!

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Ruth: To be able to write a book with noise in the background. If I don’t have quiet, I can’t concentrate on writing.

Carrie: ooo that would be nice!

Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.

Ruth: I’ve been reading books by Freida McFadden lately. They are awesome!

Carrie: Other people have said I should read her books too but I haven’t had time yet

Q: Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?

Ruth: We have a porch that we enclosed and winterized behind our house. That’s where I usually write. And often, I’ll have at least one cat out there with me to supervise!

Carrie: that sounds lovely and cozy!

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing Purrfectly Framed, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Ruth: I started out with a loose outline, then filled in the rest as I went. But those crazy characters had other ideas and changed the story before I was finished!

Carrie: haha!

Q: What is something God taught you while you wrote Purrfectly Framed?

Ruth: He taught me that I need to slow down and allow Him to guide me. And to let Him be in charge of all aspects of writing, editing, and promoting the work for His glory. 😊

Carrie: so true!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Ruth: Right now, I’m finishing  Book 2 in another series. After that, I’ll start on Book 3 of the series this book is from, the Mobile Cat Groomer Mysteries.

  1. I’m a doggie lady (hubby is allergic to cats), but it’s clever to include a cat in every book. (AND I laughed that your cats prefer to shed on your cats choose to shed on someone else’s furniture.)
