Connie Mann interview

Please join me in welcoming author Connie Mann to the blog today to talk about her new suspense/adventure novel, The Crown Conspiracy! I loved this book – complete with heists and kidnappings and secret networks and murder… and romance! – so I’m excited to talk about it with her!

Connie Mann

Connie Mann loves taking readers on heart-pounding, suspense-filled adventures featuring strong, determined women who fight for what they believe—and for those they love. When those stories take place in exciting locales and include a tempting hero, so much the better. She is the author of The Crown Conspiracy, an adrenaline-fueled adventure where an expert art forger must team up with a mysterious women-only secret society in order to rescue her best friend—and save a country. Connie’s other titles include the Florida Wildlife Warriors series, the Safe Harbor series, Angel Falls, and Trapped. She has won several writing awards, and Amazon declared Beyond Risk an Editor’s Pick.

Connie is also a USCG-licensed boat captain, and when she’s not writing, “Captain Connie” gets to introduce Florida visitors and students to dolphins, manatees, and other coastal creatures, which is as much fun as it sounds like. She is also passionate about helping women and children in developing countries break the poverty cycle and build a better future for themselves and their families.

She and her husband love spending time with family and friends and heading off to explore new places, especially those involving water and boats. Visit Connie online at conniemann.com and sign up for her newsletter for all the latest news.

Speranza Team #1

GENRE: Suspense/Adventure/Romance (Christian)
PUBLISHER: Tyndale House
RELEASE DATE: June 4, 2024

She’s a master at spotting a forgery . . . and knowing how to create one. But can she solve a decades-old mystery?

The media spotlight is the last thing art thief and forger Sophie Williams needs. But when one of three long-missing royal portraits turns up in Germany at her best friend’s art gallery, the spotlight is exactly what she gets. Since the tragic deaths of Princess Johanna of Neuhansberg and her two children forty years ago, the whereabouts of these portraits have been unknown . . . and the timing of their reappearance—just days before a new prince’s coronation—reignites questions surrounding the infamous accident.

Then Sophie’s best friend vanishes, and a rumor about hidden treasure connected to the paintings surfaces, seemingly confirmed by a cryptic message on the back of the first canvas. Convinced that finding the other two portraits will lead to her friend, Sophie begins a twisty investigation that pits her against other ruthless treasure hunters, a handsome investigator who seems to dog her trail at every turn, and a mysterious group that offers help, wearing an emblem identical to one on the painting.

From Germany’s grand castles and soaring cathedrals through the Alps to the canals of Venice, Sophie must choose her allies carefully if she hopes to find the portraits, rescue her best friend—and perhaps save a throne—before time runs out.

The Crown Conspiracy book review

Hi Connie! Welcome to the blog!

Connie: Oh, definitely summer. I’m always cold, which is why we live in Florida. Thankfully, Hubby is the same way. Even when it dips into the 30s at night, we know we’ll be shedding layers by noon as it warms up.

Carrie: i am the exact opposite – a northern girl reluctantly living in the South lol

Connie: I don’t mind cats, but I’m a dog person. We had the sweetest black lab mix for 18 years. She used to sleep beside me while I wrote and the kids told her all their secrets growing up. I still miss her.

Carrie: there’s nothing quite like the love of a dog ♥

Connie: Coffee, always. I’ll drink the occasional iced tea, but I have to be truly, miserably sick before I’ll cave and force down some hot tea.

Carrie: I feel like hot tea is basically just hot water which is gross… but then I don’t like coffee either lol

Connie: I enjoy visiting the mountains, but I am happiest near the ocean. We moved near the coast three years ago and my early-morning beach walk is one of my favorite things. I’m also a boat captain, so I’m happiest on or near the water, always.

Carrie: i was going to be very surprised if you didn’t go with ‘ocean’ for this question 😉

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Connie: I wish I could fly. I grew up an “airline brat” and have spent lots of time on airplanes. I once saw a contraption at an air show – a little boat that you could fly from one body of water to another. I totally wanted one. But if I could fly without needing a plane, that would be amazing.

Carrie: exactly!

Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?

Connie: Hands down, Harriet the Spy. I wanted to BE Harriet. I carried a little notebook around and regularly climbed up to the tippy-top of a skinny, swaying tree in our backyard so I could spy on the neighbors and also jot notes on my family and friends and any mysterious happenings I observed. To my frustration, like Harriet, my family was not super impressed with my relentless spying. Sigh. Is it any wonder I write suspense stories??

Carrie: hahaha i did the same things

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Connie: For the next Speranza Team novel, which I’m editing now, I fell way down the research rabbit hole researching poisons used in 16th century Italy, especially the ladies who created and used them on unsuspecting, often “problematic,” husbands in incredibly diverse and creative ways. I was fascinated.

Carrie: LOL oh my goodness i can’t wait to read this next book!

Q: If Hollywood wanted to produce The Crown Conspiracy as a movie, who would you want to be cast as the lead roles?

Connie: As I’m creating my characters, I almost always pick movie stars to represent them. I want to know how they look, talk, move as I write. For The Crown Conspiracy, I chose Amanda Seyfried to play Sophie Williams and Ryan Reynolds to portray Mac McKenzie.

Carrie: oooo i love those picks! I can see them as those characters!

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing The Crown Conspiracy, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Connie: I am both plotter and pantser. I need enough plot to act as a road map to get me from beginning to end. But if I plot too much, I’ve already told myself the whole story and then I don’t want to write it anymore, LOL! So I plan the big scenes and turning points and then let my characters and imagination off the leash to go explore the fun side roads.

Carrie: haha i love that answer

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from The Crown Conspiracy?

Connie: I want to encourage readers, especially women, to be brave and take risks. I want them to remember that even if we’re not super-heroes, or don’t think we’re anything special or have any specialized, world-saving skills, when we band together, we can do incredible things to help others; we can right wrongs, and we can make the world a better place.

Carrie: yes!!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Connie: I am working on the edits for The Liar’s Treasure (tentative title) for the next Speranza Team adventure. This time, the team gets embroiled in a search for a missing pirate treasure that is rumored to judge motives. With Camille’s daughter in jeopardy, the team races from New Orleans to the Caribbean to Europe trying to stay one step ahead of ruthless treasure hunters, while Camille must also decide if she can trust her high school crush to help them. Stay tuned!

    • i don’t know Crystal. From the problems you’ve been having with JR tours, too, it sounds like you need to clean your browser cache.

This book sounds interesting since I like mysteries. I downloaded a sample and I really like it! I am excited to read the whole book. It is coming to my local library soon but if I can get a copy sooner that’s great! I usually share my books with others too.
