RELEASE DATE: June 6, 2023

Running from her grief, interior designer Ava Stewart makes a hasty decision to join a missionary group heading to Uganda. She’s in the country only a few days before tragedy strikes and a mistaken identity leaves her with an uncertain outcome.

Special Operator Blake Martin is assigned to a humanitarian mission when he’s captured by a group of armed men. Wounded and miles away from his team, Blake’s brought to Ava, and she’s ordered to care for him.

Thrown together in chaos, with the threat of danger pressing in from all sides, Ava and Blake are forced to rely on each other—and God—to escape. An undeniable bond is formed during their flight to safety, but opening their hearts to love carries its own risk. A risk they aren’t sure they’re willing to take.

Now, miles apart and living separate lives, they need to decide if the connection they shared in the untamed, wilds of Uganda is strong enough to confront the future. A future where Ava’s fragile heart and Blake’s hazardous job collide, and only God knows the outcome.

Hi Christina! Welcome to the blog!

Christina: Winter. I do not like to be hot, and my favorite time to write is when I’m sitting with a coffee or a hot cocoa in front of a roaring fire.

Carrie: same!!

Christina: I’ve always been a cat person. I don’t know what it is, they calm me. Versus a cute little pup that always wants to play or go outside.

Carrie: awww but puppy snuggles are the best ♥

Christina: Pepsi has a certain taste I like better than Coke, and if I had my choice I’d go with a Cherry Pepsi.

Carrie: the Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi is the only Pepsi product I like – their cherry flavor is way better than Coke’s.

Christina: While I love the soothing sounds of the ocean, I think from a mom’s perspective there’s always so much to clean up after a day at the beach! Sand gets in everything—for days. Mountains allow me to enjoy cool, crisp air and of course a relaxing fire with s’mores.

Carrie: oh the sand! I much prefer mountains too 🙂

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Christina: My superpower would definitely be time jumping. I enjoy reading history books, so I’d love the ability to read about a moment in history and transport myself to that event. Can you imagine listening to a young C.S. Lewis, or watching them sign the Declaration of Independence? That would be awesome!

Carrie: that WOULD be awesome! As long as we can jump back to our modern conveniences lol

Q: Which books are “on your nightstand”?

Christina: A bouquet of Brides Collection – A collection of seven stories by seven different Christian fiction authors
Until Leaves Fall in Paris by Sarah Sundin
Peter, The Man Who Went on an Adventure with Jesus by Robby Roberson
Dispatches from the Front by Tim Keesee
7 Men and 7 Women by Eric Metaxas

Carrie: love seeing Sarah Sundin on the list – always a fave 🙂

Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?

Christina: If you looked in my purse you’d see that I carry several lip glosses with me. I even have a lip gloss made by a local beauty artist named after a character in The Decision! The Ava gloss! I always have hard peppermints! I usually have a wad of clean napkins in my purse. My family gathers the extras and shoves in my purse, just in case I need them, or somebody needs them. I have bookmarks of my book and colored gel pens—those are my favorite to write notes with because they have a great feel to them. I always have tissues, although I don’t know why, I don’t use them much. (I have napkins, remember?) I currently have Christmas themed tissues. There’s a peppermint essential oil roller ball at the bottom of my purse as well as a sanitizer that smells like Evergreen. I seem to have a winter themed purse in the middle of summer!

Carrie: winter themes in summer are my kinda jam 🙂

Q: Were there any songs that inspired you as you wrote The Decision?

Christina: I love using music to write scenes. One of the songs that moved me as I wrote The Decision was Hold Her by For King and Country. It really shows the heart of a couple being separated by miles and the tug on the husband’s heart to ask God to watch over his loved one while he was away. I truly felt this song embodied something my character Blake might have been feeling as his job in the military called him away from Ava.

Carrie: oh i love that!

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing The Decision, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Christina: I didn’t outline this story, my characters definitely held the reigns and decided where we were going! I will say my first glimpse of The Decision in my imagination was of Ava in a dusty prison. I needed to decided where she was and why, but I knew it was hot and she needed water!

Carrie: that’s so interesting!

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from The Decision?

Christina: I’d love for my readers to be challenged to take a risk on love after they read The Decision. Not just romantic love, but to take a risk and show love to your fellow man even if you’re uncertain of the outcome.

Carrie: amen ♥

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Christina: Coming up next! Currently I am preparing for my Romantic Mystery Series to come out! My first book in the series, Best Seller, will be available August 6th of this year. While I prepare to launch book one, I’m writing book two!

I always like the story line of a strong military hero. Ronie Kendig comes to mind.

  2. Maritza

The story appeals to me, having a dad who is an army vet, myself and my husband who are vets also, I’ve known people who didn’t last as couples because of war or just military life in general

  3. Nancy

I would like to read The Decision by Christina Rost because she is an author who is new to me.

  4. Roxanne C.

I was reading an excerpt of the book, and when it came to an end, I was left wanting to know what happened next to Ava.

I really like romantic suspense where there’s romance vs circumstances. Circumstances read well, but sometimes I wonder how a realistic sequel would read as far as romance.

  6. Having worked extensively with Somali refugees (legal), my heart bleeds for Africa because of the political and spiritual turmoil in this continent. This is the first book I’ve come across that’s based in Uganda. It definitely perks my interest.

  7. Sarah Evankovich

I love romantic suspense book & stories that get you involved from the very beginning. Just reading the synsposis, it sounds like a book that I’d get caught up in & wouldn’t be able to put down.

Enjoyed reading the interview with Christina Rost and learning more about THE DECISION.

Had me wondering about the winter, but made up for it with the Diet Pepsi and mountains. 🙂

Can’t wait for the opportunity to read this book on my TBR list.
