Why blog?

Considering that my first word was “book”, it was pretty much a given that I would be a voracious reader. Though my tastes have broadened from Nancy Drew, Little House, and The Secret Garden to include a bevy of marvelous genres and authors, I still love to read.  Talking about these beloved books seemed like a natural extension of my superpower, and thus a blog was born.

What can you expect from this blog?

Books reviewed honestly and from the heart, written out of my love for stories and my knowledge of what makes good fiction. Interviews with some of my favorite authors. Giveaways of some of my favorite books. Top Ten Tuesdays. First Line Fridays. Gushing over my latest book boyfriends. (Sorry, oh-so-tolerant hubby!)

The highlight of blogging for me is when I am able to introduce you to your next favorite read or a new-to-you author!

What kind of books do you review?

My passion is Christian fiction, but I have a handful of go-to authors in the general market and cozy mystery genres as well. I love to laugh. I love books that touch my heart too. I read both historical and contemporary fiction, and I’m always on the outlook for another great kissingbook! If it’s got suspense, all the better. You won’t find much science fiction/fantasy here, other than fairy tales and the occasional nod to Narnia or Harry Potter, though I’m starting to find many more books that I love in this speculative genre. No vampires or werewolves, though.

Do you ever do anything besides read?

Not willingly. 😉 Actually, in my other life, I live in Georgia with my hubby, where we love our church & small group. I’m a hands-on cool aunt to our eight nieces and nephews who live only a few miles from me. (We have two other nephews & a niece who live a day’s drive away, too.) When I’m not blogging here at RimSP, you can find me blogging at Seekerville and coordinating blog & review tours at JustRead Publicity Tours. I also used to review for RT Book Reviews, and I recently co-curated ECPA’s 2022 Art of Writing Conference. Oh yeah… and I wrote a book for authors.

  1. I do believe in the words of Anne Shirley “we are kindred spirits”. I also read anythng within my view. Until I started taking my Kindle with me to work I would read the breakroom posters. Glad to see that I’m not the only one that MUST be reading. lol 🙂

      • Love your reviews esp. In the YA and fairy tale retellings, but I see no option to comment on individual review. Please check out my blog and leave a comment if you like. I am only beginning at it and hope to review books in the future. For now I have Bible Study articles there. God bless.

        • Carrie

sorry about that Melissa – you should be able to comment now. WP keeps changing a setting back after I fix it. Oy. lol.

  2. Hi, Carrie,
I have nominated you for the WordPress family Award for all you have meant to me and other bloggers.
If you don’t accept awards, I understand. I just wanted you to know you are appreciated.
I LOOOOOOOOVE to read, too. (And do reviews,) It’s always fun to get someone else’s perspective!
    God’s Blessings!

  3. Hey there Carrie! Just browsing around the blogosphere, finding some fun and interesting blogs to follow to make some new friends in 2016. If you like, hop on over to my world at http://www.thatssojacob.wordpress.com, and if you see anything you like, comment or follow! Have a great day and happy new year! PS: I just posted a fun bookish game, check it out!

  4. Love the name of you site! And love your reviews! I am slowly gaining a wider range reviewing opportunities. I am so addicted to books! Would read way more, but 2 young children commmandeer the majority of my time right now.

    • Thanks. Rachel! 🙂 The fact that you have energy to read at all with 2 young kids shows you have some kind of superpower too 😉

  5. Hi! I’m new to the book blog word (where have I been, right?! ha!) Love your blog – looks like my cup of tea 😉 I’ll definitely be reading your posts!

  6. So nice to meet you. You have certainly captured my attention here. I, too, love Jesus. I also LOVE to read, and I also LOVE to write. I am working on my very first historical fiction novel. I will visit here as often as I can, but visiting other blogs is something I struggle to find time to do with homeschooling and writing and keeping my household in as much order as I can when I drag myself away from a book or my computer. 🙂

  7. Fairy BonBon

I did a search for “book club for fairy tales” & your April 2015 post came up. Enjoyed the dialogue.
A little background; I am happily retired and have become a Fairy Fanatic; currently trying to read all of the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales; curious because growing up I battled with disc Lexia. However I am curious if you may have come across a group that indeed reads & discusses the old Fairy Tales? I’d enjoy seeing others’ modern views on these classics. Thank you so much

  8. Hi Carrie! Lovely to meet you and your virtual home sweet home! Looking forward to reading your book reviews. I’m a French bookworm living in Belgium 🙂

  9. Hi Carrie- I enjoy reading your blog I guess it is by email. But I want to know how can I grab your Reading is My Superpower button, and where can I use it? For example, can I use it on my blog? Thank you.
