One of the things I enjoy so much about Cynthia Ruchti’s books is her writing voice. It’s graciously down to earth with a dry wit that has me grinning even through tears, laughing even around the lump in my throat, and always always unable to put down the story until I’ve savored every word.
Cynthia Ruchti’s books were new to me when I started blogging, but oh my goodness was I missing out! The heart and the humor and the characters captivate me from word one – no matter which book I pick up. Yesterday on Straight Off the Page, my blogging cohort Melissa […]
Delightful, warm, and charming, More Than a Promise is more than a love story. Or rather, it’s more than a story about two people falling in love. It’s a story of hope and faith, of humor and family, of blending lives, of second chances, and most of all it’s a story that points to the Author of all love stories and how He’s head over heels for us.
The Storm Sister – and its series – captivates me on many levels. The dual timeline is presented both seamlessly and creatively, and each story had multiple layers to uncover. As a series, the overarching thread of the sisters and their mysterious adoptive father continued to intrigue me – and new depths and questions were added that have me anxiously waiting for the next installment.
Like a Love Song went straight for my heart. The characters, their histories, their futures, the setting, the plot. All of it spoke to me on a level that went beyond the romance and aimed steadfastly toward Jesus. Joe and Sue’s love story was, of course, a highlight of the book for me – it was cute, sweet, and even breath-stealing on occasion. But in all honesty, it paled in comparison to this truth that Camille Eide framed so gorgeously: God’s love never fails.
North of Here is a story of contrasts and characters. Of two men. Of two women. Of those born into wealth but walking around poor in spirit. Of those personalities who are self-sufficient and of the ones who always seem to need a rescue.
The Starlight Chronicles is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs as we follow Lark and her bandmates in their quest to win the first round of a national “American Idol”-type competition. I was captivated by this book the moment I started reading it. The words flow lyrically and naturally all at once
The plot of Pieces on Earth revolved around Liv’s anxiety and stress over her husband’s unexpected deployment to Afghanistan as well as other life “yuck” that just all piles on at once. Through the process, Liv and her daughter and even a friend or two learn a truth timely for today’s world – Life is broken. We are broken. Everything is a mess. But God sent Jesus to be our “Fixer”, to rescue us from our mess and repair what is broken.
What an incredibly sweet and touching novel!
Have you ever had one of those years where every time you turn around something else punches you in the gut and sucks the air right out of you? One of those weeks? One of those days? If that season of life left you searching for an anchor, this book is a great place to start!
Such love and warmth and laughter and friendship emanated from this novella, courtesy of Cynthia Ruchti’s talented pen. Such love and warmth and laughter and friendship emanated from this novella, courtesy of Cynthia Ruchti’s talented pen. Grandma Dodie and Grandpa Wilson are just the absolute sweetest and cutest couple ever! I want to be like them when I grow up.
For as much as I had tears in my eyes while reading An Endless Christmas, I also laughed out loud just as frequently.
